In the 70s I was aged 11 to 21 so it didn't even enter my mind, I was just getting on with my life as best I could, I am a lucky one in that I never encountered sexual abuse personally or to my knowledge anybody I was close to.

During my working life I never worked in or near areas where adults were in positions of power over vulnerable children so again it never entered my consciousness at all, but if I had been in a position where I knew something abhorrent was happening I'm damn sure I would have known right from wrong and done something about it.

Of course you would have. Like every other well meaning person both within and outside the Catholic Church and every other institution that shifted heaven and earth to stop it happening.

I think it has been demonstrated that the catholic church did not do everything it could to stop it happening, they actually covered it up, moved abusers around and thereby tacitly endorsed it.

If he does get out, that is, the jury verdict gets overturned (and let's leave aside for a moment personal feelings about the person involved) it's an absolute indictment on our criminal justice system that a bloke is allowed to rot in solitary confinement for (so far) 7 weeks whilst the Chief Justice swans around overseas when she damn well knew what the decision would be before she took off.
brother calm down

Tell me. What did you do to stop child sexual abuse in the 1970s?

At that stage, I was too terrified to do anything but hide.
Try and make myself invisible.
And I was far from alone.
But I was no H.G. Wells character.
And neither were my mates.

You have no idea how much you revolt me Bruce, and how badly I would hurt you if you espoused this shit in public company within my earshot.

Feel free to have a crack.

If you’re comforted by the retrospectively outraged, good luck to you.

I can promise you’d have seen far more support from me in the trenches than these carpet baggers.

"the retrospectively outraged'

You are just a dog.
A dirty, filthy, mongrel dog.
You make me sick.

Where were these people when the abuse was occurring?

I’ll tell you where they were, running Gillian Sneddon out of the ALP for reporting the abuse of one of their own.

So you can be as angered by me and sickened by me as you like. PM me. I’ll even meet up so you can have a free shot.

But these “online supporters” are worth shit.

I wasn’t directly involved in the CSA stuff. I didn’t see it or experience it. But I was involved in the banking stuff. And I stood up. And I stood ****ing alone. All the anonymous supporters were nowhere to be seen when there needed to be some skin lost.

Downhill skiers. Wind sniffers. Call them what you like. There’s a reason scandals go on longer than they should. And the loudest protesters after the event are reliably the least reliable during the event.
Which, as you have consistently implied throughout this entire trial, is the survivors of sexual abuse.
We are the ones who are 'making it up'.
We are the ones who have an axe to grind about 'your' church, or any other church.
You know, because life leads us to have nothing better to do than make up stuff because we don't like someones preferred cult.
Because it's just fun to place yourself in the biggest Supreme Court trial in this country's history that I know of, embarrass yourself publicly via your evidence and then open yourself up to a huge perjury suit.

And then, you know...just live like nothing bad ever happened to you and the inevitable media intrusion.
Because, yeah, life has been kind to you.

Holy crap the past two pages are just that Bruce guy football spiking over an alleged pedo from a pedo organisation getting off on technicality

Imagine how sad a life you must live, Bruce, one has to wonder what sorta motivation someone has to actually go this far to stick up for a pedo organisation, I suspect they might be pretty deviant. I actually feel sorry for you, hope you seek the help you need

I implied nothing of the sort. You inferred it.

.....obviously Christian ethics and morals are compatible with the ideology of the IPA so George needed to be present at the IPA 70th anniversary dinner in order represent the Catholic Church and little baby Jesus.

How anyone can defend the repugnant organisation known as the Catholic Church let alone this convicted child rapist Pell is beyond me! Good riddance to rubbish.

It is absolutely defensible.
It is ludicrous to imply, as you have, that the actions of few reasonably represent the vast majority of Catholics and or the Catholic Church generally.
So ludicrous is your reasoning, that if applied with the same level of irresponsibly, and absence of logic, it could just as unreasonably be argued that male homosexuals are generally, by association, as repugnant as pedophiles who share the same sexual orientation.
