I realise this is bigfooty but wow, Marc Murphy is at the moment and has proven thus far that he is a better footballer than Scott Pendlebury. One of the best players you can have is a goal kicking Midfielder which Murphy is now one of the best in the league. Pendlebury is a very good player and was a good pick at 5 but Murphy is the better player and until Pendlebury does something to disprove this quickly Murphy will remain the best player of the two and the 05 Draft.

Both good players, but I would take Murphy anyday. Hard at it, kick goals, courage.

I think Pendlebury is the more complete player but if I had to choose I'd rather have Murphy in melbourne colours

I'll take Pendlebury, but only on size and leadership quality, as I can't really split them on pure football ability.

And one other thing Pendles has in his favour is he has performed in finals on a regular basis (although Injured this year 1 minute in:(). But to be fair to Murphy, he has only had one opportunity, and he did his job on the night.

kick goals.

If he doesn't kick goals he wouldn't have kicked 20 goals plus in 2007 including taking apart AA CHB Bolton at CHF in a game where he started as a CHF. B/C Murphy is a midget, he doesn't have this side to his game.

At Carlton, Murphy has to kick goals as your forward line options are non existent. Pendlebury doesn't have this issue at Collingwood & unlike Murphy, cannot be exposed when his opponent runs forward of the ball.

Murphy leads the competition in goals conceded on his direct opponent.

Oposition coaches are quite content for Pendles to rack up his 30-40. He is just not damaging with the ball and doesn't break the lines or kick goals.

Murphy does all those things.

So when Judd and pendles went head to head early in the season and pendles had 6 clearences and 20 touches to half time ratten didn't change his opponent to a tagger to shut him out of the game? Yeah u have a lot of credibility

Did "Pendles" really have 20 touches in the first half in that game?

Because Carlton led 7.3 to 1.7 at half time.

Point made :o

Career stats are freakish in their similarity.

Murphy as a goalkicking midfielder is a bit of a myth, 0.8 goals per game over 80 games isn't exactly Gary Ablett like.

Pendlebury averages 0.6, almost no difference.

Only stat Murphy leads clearly in is Free Kicks for, being smaller helps with over the shoulder free kicks, and well, he plays for Carlton so he is going to get more free kicks then anyone who plays for the Pies, that's just a statistical fact.

No real accurate point of argument to split them clearly.

Yeah stats are close but one is pure silk and moves through traffic like he is coated in vaseline.. the other is a vanilla smurf

I don't think Murphy's vanilla. With his kicking, he's more like rocky road.

i think murphy kicks more goals but id love to see how many goals murphs opposite numbers kicked on him compared to pendlebury, i reckon it would be telling, pendlebury runs both ways like all the collingwood mids do.

Wait let me get this straight... Murphy has 30% extra tackles per game then Pendlebury yet Murphy is the front running player who doesn't run both ways?

Fair suck of the old sav right there

Shhhh, don't bring any hard facts into this debate. They will be dispelled along the lines of "stats just don't show the true picture" or something along those lines.

well you should know black muppet, as ive asked you time and time again, what is the obsession with collingwood? could it be that collingwood and carlton were once similar clubs? now carltons the joke of the league and have massive onfield and off field problems and collingwoods just going from strengh to strengh and you cant handle it? GET OVER IT, BECAUSE WE WERE OVER YOU LONG AGO.

we just dont care anymone, even the collingwood carlton game isnt that big anymore, not for us anyway, bigger fish to fry nowadays.

Great poll. Very tough.

Both very good players and players that i'd take in a heart beat but I took Pendlebury as i believe he is the more complete player. Murphy needs to improve the defensive side of his game.
