Relax. We didn't bend over to get Clark last year, and we wont be doing it this year either.

That article is your stock standard trade week arse talk, who would expect anything different?

Pretty much.
He's said he wants to come home. West coast don't want him.

Sorry Brissy but you're up shit creek.
Exactly what Tarrant did to us.

Yes and no. Tarrant said "Collingwood or retire". Clark is saying "Freo or somewhere else".

I'm a believer in what goes around comes around, and I don't think we should be screwing Brisbane over by putting Clark into the PSD. I'm happy enough to threaten it should Brisbane be unrealistic, though.

In the end, if we want him then we are in a good position because he wants out and is uncontracted. Brisbane will want something for him, so will take whatever we offer rather than have him go PSD. Unfortunate, but that's the way the system is. This is the reason why clubs should be looking to trade players who are in contract, rather than waiting until they are out of contract.

first of all, brisbane will not get what they want. the bidding always starts out with one team wanting a stupidly high amount.

secondly, clark can play, people making out that he cant either dont know much about footy or are being stubborn to the point of stupidity. If clark is ok with being predominantly a forward (which im assuming he is, given that he has asked to be traded to fremantle) then he will be a big upgrade on kepler and mayne.

thirdly, if the deal gets done, i truly hope that people dont "mcphee" him. and by that i mean, be blinded by their initial thoughts on him and refuse to see any good that he does.

fourth, people arent seeing the advantage of having 3 genuine ruckman in the team, two of which can play most other positions on the ground. To be able to have both clark, clarke and sandilands in our side would be a huge advantage. if one goes down during a game, we have lost nothing, if one is not playing well, we can switch them around, it just makes our side so much more flexible. not to mention the fact that sandi's work load will decrease allowing him to prolong his career

fifth, i love how jon griffin has gone about it this year. he is a freo boy and he gave it his all. having him under contract though, at this particular time where there is a dearth of quality ruckman is a big plus for us. his value is as high as it has ever been. he wants to be a number 1 ruck. stkilda, richmond, port adelaide and probably even geelong and collingwood could use another quality big ruckman... we could get a nice pick for him right now. given we gave only pick 61 it could be a fantastic win for us trading him off.

we should really keep an open mind about this, and providing we dont sell the farm to get clark (i.e giving away two first round picks, or someone like zac clarke), we should be excited at the prospect of him wearing purple

btw, he has been a lifelong freo supporter as well, which is always a bonus

That's manager's fluff, so mitch doesn't look like he's putting them over a barrel. His parents have sold up and moved back to Perth. He's coming home and a deal will be done.

haha Harvey telling him hes a vital piece to the puzzle for a premiership tilt... Harves has lost it. We're at least 5 A-B+ graders away from a genuine premiership tilt. Hes thought process is keeping his job right now and will do anything to get a short term fix. Mitch Clark is a B Grader. Your kidding yourself if you think otherwise

Having discipline and steel in your C / -B graders covers allot of evils. look at Collingwood. Look at how ordinary most of the players that left the Dons after their dominant season in 2000 turned out to be. If our worst 6 to 9 on the field at any one time stick to their role and keep running then our current best 6 to 9 players will be good enough.

Some of you guys are incredibly over-dramatic. Giving up pick 16 (which will probably be the basis of the trade) in a weak draft is mortgaging our future? Clark is an absolute steal at that price, you guys are going to be singing his praises next year. 6'7 utility with great hands and who likes to impose himself physically at the contest.

I would love to get O'Meara as well and If it was a simple choice between him and Clark then of course you take the guy who's the likely number 1 draft pick. O'Meara is going to be carrying the price tag of a number 1 draft pick though and GWS aren't throwing him away for a couple of late first round picks and fringe players. They would want Sandi, Pav, Mundy, Fyfe or Hill. If you think trading Clark is mortgaging our future then I can guarantee you that trading for O'Meara is throwing away any shot we have of contending in the next 3 years. Now I know doom and gloom is all the rage here atm, but I for one think we have a very decent shot. I don't necessarily think that Clark is the one missing piece but you only have to see with the Eagles that a good run with injuries, a smart coaching system and players knowing their roles = contending.

YEah that's fine, it's when journos start talking about including Clarke as the price of the trade that I get nervous.
If we were to trade Clarke AND a pick to get Clark I would give up on this Club forever. The Tarrant trade nearly broke me but trading Clarke out would be the final straw. I know there has been nothing from the Club to suggest we would consider this but I'm nervous about the noises Harves is making.

I agree with your thoughts creamy. You also nailed the reasons for the doom and the gloom. I think we can recruit well enough regardless of Clark or O'Meara, but I am keen to see how we fix the other issues.

We won't trade Clarke and our first rounder.

No need to even pretend to worry about that. Clarke won't be traded or the team wouldn't have let him go to teh media for the 'I love Freo' puff piece.

BTW, the name of this thread is the stupid, one sided garbage that Clay usually spills out. I look forward to us getting Clark as long as it doesn't cost more than our first rounder and change.

And if/when it does?

I have a feeling this is going to turn into a bitter struggle for all involved. We do have some things on our side however, most notably that he wants to come home. I dont think any other club would pick him up in the PSD, so i dont see why we should part with pick 16. At worst, we'll give em our compo for palmer.

Dick brained you reckon?

Actually, it had more to do with my alcohol consumption.

Just an experiment to see if this would get 5 pages of opposition supporters giving their commentary, moreso than my opinion of the situation.

But thanks for playing. :thumbsu:

It would be better to give them our first rounder than the compo pick. The compo pick is more valuable to GWS which can help in the battle for Jaeger.

Correct, also if we manage to hold onto the compensation pick they we can use it for pick 19-21 in a super draft while our pick 16 this year is in a "weaker draft".

What we know for a fact is that Zac Clarke is contracted and has already stated that he does not want to be involved in the Mitch Clark trade so relax. Brisbane will definitely fold, they can't afford to lose a player like Mitch Clark for nothing at the moment. And it's there fault if they refused to deal last year when they held the cards.

Why not? They're doing the same to us by demanding a first rounder plus a quality young player like Clarke.

It's a competition. The less we give to the Lions, the less they can use on field to beat us. Have we learned nothing from the last 15 years of fail trades?

Official now. Looks like he's told them he wants to come home, not go anywhere else!

Strengthens our hand considerably, but I still feel we should be realistic with the trade to the lions. Whatever he's worth, I'm sure we'll come up with something less than what the lions want. But I doubt it will be PSD for Mitch.

Is it now safe to assume that Griff & Kep will be shopped? Both will be surplus for us if Clark comes in, and we may as well get something for them while they are worth something.

Yeah, I would be interested in drafting Adam Cockie, Kyle Horsley looks the goods too, but doesnt have a penis conotation (other than hung like a horse).

legit, these guys were great today

I've got a feeling that Kep is on his way to GWS.

Is it possible that a deal was done late this year and thats why Kep didn't get a game? (I love a good conspiracy theory)

It's like the Warnock trade, we wanted pick 6 (which he wasn't worth) but was worth more than pick 24 which was on the table and we blinked first. Same applies with Clark, they'll beat their chest all week but in the end they'll take pick 16.

I believe pick 16 is what it will take to get Clark.

I dont believe we should give up that pick to get him though.
2nd round + player is all i would give.

Has alot of ability but is still yet to show it.
I laughed so much when i read them calling him a POWER FORWARD.

He is a backup ruck with ability to spend time forward.
He is not a guy that can just sit forward all day.

With Zac coming along nicely an Kep performing so well i just cannot see why we are chasing him as he has not shown that he can perform better than them.
Yes i strongly believe the rumours we are chasing him an really want him.

If we get Clark i guess that means ZClarke will only get games as a midfielder :(
