I'm sure there isn't, but quite frankly unless you are Dordoro you can't say that with any real authority. I'd back WH and our recruiting department in on that one. I wouldn't be surprised if WH rated Grigg above Jetta anyway, or it was that close it wasn't worth taking the risk on Hampson, I also think while Jetta is more likely to have more impressive singular games that Grigg is a better chance of a more consistent and sustained AFL career. Fact is we desperately needed a young ruckman on our list, over and above any other priority/player and IIRC Hampson was the next name on our best available list at 17 anyway.

Agree with the ruck bit however Hughs definately rated Jetta above Grigg. Said it after the draft. However I'm still happy with our choice. Think Grigg is a definate AFL player and he can kick!!!!

Would have loved houli though at 35. Always rated him and would have been happy with him at 17 or 19 before the draft. Absolute gun.

I'm not as sold on Grigg as many others on this site seem to be.

Sure, he shows some signs that he might be a handy player, but I am still yet to be convinced.

I really don't like how he is being played though. Moving Houlihan up the ground is a great idea and one that most of us have been calling for for a very long time. However, Grigg is not the player to replace him with.

When under pressure, he seems to panic a lot, and turnovers galore result. It may just be something that is frequent as a youngster, but realistically, if he is going to be effective in the sweeper position, it has to impove dramatically.

I think he'll make it, but I have serious doubts as to whether it's playing mainly out of the back half. I'd much rather see him develop on a wing or a forward flank.

Not having a go at you specifically J........just at this type of comment.

Is there ar ule against having skill and playing in the backline?
How many people are we going to have in the forward half?

It just seems to me that everytime someone can kick half decent we wnat to throw them forward. Grigg seems to be able to stick close enough to his man.......compared to Scotty and Hoops he is the picture of a defender.

.............I'm done.

Houli had some injury concerns prior to the draft, and I suspect that is why he fell as far down as he did. If he can get his body right, he'll be a good player. Also, give Austin a chance. I have been reliably informed that he was a pretty solid player in the SANFL, and another 12 months or so should see him develop pretty nicely.

It's a lot harder to get a game at their respective clubs.

Hislop - Showed a lot when he played.

Proud - Lions mids are too strong for the kid to get a go.

Dawes - Coming back from a knee reco, this kid is very special. If he gets himself fit he can hold down a Key position spot at Collingwood for years. He would have been very handy on our list, especially with JK and Lance gone.
So the answer's "no" then.

Read what I said once again...this time a little more carefully ;)

My point was that to play the role that Scotty and Hoops have been playing in the past - that is, sweeper that isn't really accountable to a man, you must have pin-point precision with your disposal reasonably often.

Grigg has been playing this position during the current preseason, and for mine, he doesn't have the sublime disposal skills that Scotland and Houlihan have previously displayed. At the moment, Grigg's disposal and decision making, whilst not poor by any stretch of the imagination, is not good enough yet to play that position week in, week out for the seniors.

If we want to play him in that position in the future, then that is fine - I have no problem with that. However, I would strongly suggest that he spend some time in the reserves playing that exact role. When his confidence is up, and when he has improved his skills and decision making a great degree, then we can bring him in to the seniors to play that role.

If we insist on having him in the senior team come round 1, then I would rather he play through the middle or on the half forward flank where his ability to get the ball and use it are adequate for the position.

Austin played 2 senior games in the SANFL.
In the first he reportedly had a bad patch in the game and his man got away for a few quick goals which turned the game. In the 2nd he was OK.

Re Grigg - was dominant in the VFL basically from the very start which is a good sign.
I think he has been impressive. Good pace, has shut his man out, finds the pill, good disposable, good size......what's not to like about him?

Grigg expected to go to Adelaide at pick 14 ( who took Sellar when he slid ) so WH wasnt the only one who rated him.

Anyone else get a little creeped out these days when an opposition supporter actually gives us or one of our players a compliment?

If it makes you feel any better I got smacked around yesterday for saying Murphy has gone backwards with his goal kicking and will not make it to as an elite player in the AFL.

I have no problem giving my personal views on players good or bad.

Which surprises me considering everyone here seems to be jumping off the wagon because of a couple of poor games. The guy's gone from being set for a huge year without having to worry about the tag, future Brownlow medallist etc, to being a has-been before his third season has even begun. A LOT of our supporters need to relax.

But to put it in perspective, we're used to the following level of critiqing of our players from opposition supporters in here.
OMG MURPHY SUX FOLEY/THOMAS/PENDLES IS BETTER HAHA YOU LOSE AGAIN CHEATS KARMAS A BITCH CARLTANK OMG LOL!!!!!!11111
