You mean compare a giant agrarian society to smaller nations with a far greater urbanized population?Compare China to Japan and Korea for example. Still dramatically behind in living standards.
Centrally planned economies are generally terribly mismanaged (note both China and the Soviet Union suffered mass starvation due to economic mishandling) but that comparison is nowhere near adequate. China only in the past few years actually met the benchmark of more than 50% of the population living in urban rather than agrarian conditions - and the US has more kids living in poverty than in Russia.
