Half decent coach may have got you a bit closer but it would've been a tall order to knock off that Penrith side regardless of who was at the helm.
Parramatta were one of the few teams that troubled Penrith between 2019 and 2022, going 6-7 in 13 games.

But never when it mattered.

You were a bogey side but you also got absolutely wiped off the park in a GF.

They could play the cowboys there and it would still sell i reckon.

I would have said 6pm Friday is perfect but that's 4pm in Perth so it can't be played then.

5:30pm Saturday game is ideal & the new metro station in North Sydney has made it easier to get to and from North Sydney then what it used to be.
Yeah Friday at 6pm would be great to attend, terrible for TV.

Think it deserves a good standalone fixture. A Friday night 8pm game would be unreal.

True, we lost all three finals, including the 2021 SF where the Penrith Doctor called for the Ref to stop the play with Parra 10 metres from the goal line and Penrith a player (maybe two) down. You need a bit of luck sometimes and we didn't get it when we had a genuine chance at winning.

I wouldn't touch Brad Arthur

Can't develop juniors and doesnt have a plan B in his coaching.

Chase the collison and play hard is all he has.

Speaking to a few people at Parramatta earlier this year they were shocked how under-skilled and under-prepared they were under Arthur. Ryles is slowly cleaning up the mess

It frustrates me as a Parra fan we wasted a great roster between 2019-2022 where a half decent coach probably gets us over the line.
Can't develop is a gross misrepresentation. He is elite at developing talent Gutherson Moses Browne Matterson Hopgood Paulo all were made origin debut under him. Isiah Papalii was best backrower under him after years of doing nothing at NZ. His knock his defence which never was able to solve doubt many coaches better then him.

You make an interesting point. What’s gonna be the best tv slot for the team?

Remembering now you have to factor in a west coast slot, east coast and NZ

Unlike some people, I'm not against this, Arthur does have his limitations as a coach, but he is pretty solid at building a team, he did a good job after Ricky Stuart gutted the Parramatta team in 2013, he just wasn't capable enough to bring the trophy home in 2021-22.

This time it will be from scratch, but he is probably the best person for the job that is currently available or not named Wayne Bennett.

The former Parramatta Eels coach is set to be unveiled as an NRL coach once again in the coming days after a short stint in England.

**** Basil zemplias and his stupid bullshit.

He's actually doing a good job reigning Labor's excesses.

This is another cash cow for the state and will help the rectangular stadium to be redeveloped.

Well, it wasn't a cash cow for the Reds. Was it a cash cow for the Storm ?
How is it going to be a cash cow when when people don't travel over the harbour bridge let alone the 4,000km to Perfth ?

The only thing hes done is whinge. He's not presented anything futile to anything. There's a reason why he's hated by many western Australians. He won't win the next election.

I just missed this. Back then Perth was a ghost town. There was barely anything happening here. We only just had a population slightly more than Adelaide today things have changed.

Yes NRL should just focus on NZ then right? It's not called the prl. Reds were sacked simply because Rupert won the war and wanted the storm in.

In 1992 Perth had a population of 1.4 million, much bigger than Adelaide and was booming.
That's why the Reds seemed viable.
Things have certainly changed since then. Those original expats have moved on but the population has doubled since them.

i don't know why you would suggest that, but that's where half the players come from.
Reds were sacked simply because Rupert won the war and wanted the storm in.

So being unviable had nothing to do with it!

Call it what you want it's the oppositions job to point out the failings of the government.
He's not presented anything futile to anything.

That's what politics is all about.

I don't know anybody that would use that word, There is absolutely no reason to use that word.
He won't win the next election.

Most probably, but he has absolute;y turned the Liberal party around from being a telephone box party.

I dont think Westralians will jump onto a re-branded Sydney team especially if they play a couple home games a season outside of WA. Should have built a team here from the ground up imo.

I see it as the poorest option in rebranding a failed Sydney NRL team. I had a soft spot for the Bears in Sydney because of the synergy with North Shore AFC but nobody except BF fans would have any attachment in W.A.
A green fields team would have been strongest in the long term but the NRL was never going to invest that much money.
For me, Cronulla, has the fans, the colours, the motif and is ready for action. Thus is the best compromise.

We may need to change the thread title soon. NRL adamant they won’t be called Western Bears because of the previous unsuccessful bid.
Perth Bears looking more likely.

Perth Bears sounds better anyway.

I keep waiting to hear they've changed their minds.

17k Christchurchians reminding the NRL they're still here.
It's absolutely insane that's not happening instead of PNG.
