It's absolutely insane that's not happening instead of PNG.
PNG are Albo's team. I agree Christchurch is perfect fit for another Rugby league team and bury Union even more on the South Island of NZ.

Only reason they are coming in is the Federal Government package Albo is giving the NRL to get a team in PNG to stop China.

It will be disaster but NRL & the clubs have got some pretty good $$$$ out of it.

I actually heard the figure they were given.

And yes, they've all been given it (and most have already spent it).

Looks like Brad Arthur will be the coach. Alot of other candidtate just dont seem interested.

Plan is in place to bring in a strong contingent of South African rugby union players. Bears are looking to get extra roster spots as well for the first 4 years of our existence and suspect the above is why we want it.

I dont think Westralians will jump onto a re-branded Sydney team especially if they play a couple home games a season outside of WA. Should have built a team here from the ground up imo.
I dont get where this is coming from TBH. The Sydney bid failed, this is a new bid independent of that one.

No chance any Sydney home games occur.. I dont think Roger Cook can justify spending W.A tax money to send a WA team to Sydney and he is a big part of the funding. It will be a Perth only franchise

There will be 1 home game played at North Sydney, that has always been part of the bid.

“North Sydney Oval will be used initially in a trial game, we have got to iron out 26 years of bug bears in that ground,” he explained.

“A trial game and one competition game in year one would be the status quo and from there we see how it grows.

“You will see the Bears brand, you will see the Bears colours, you will see games at North Sydney Oval. But we live, stay and play in Perth.”

Also, the North Sydney Bears heritage is coming along as part of the club. That's part of the deal that Roger Cook helped to negotiate. You can read that at the start of the article.

I was of the belief that was ruled out? Where did that money come from exactly

No it was always part of both bids.

I personally think it's pretty smart to be honest. Have the heritage of the existing brand but you'll also have a foothold in the Eastern state as well as obviously an unobstructed foothold in Perth/WA.

Which money are you referring to? What was offered to the NRL?

hahaha Love it! For decades AFL media haven't paid any attention to RL while RL media always seemed scared of AFL!

Last couple of years it's totally reversed! I deadset haven't heard any AFL news in Sydney for years unless I go looking for it (It was always shoved down our throats previously)! You'd barely know Giants and Swans have been good for years.

Vegas and now WA... RL Has gained traction hard in AFL states whether good news, negative news or just like the above hissy fits!

I don't think there's all that many of them.

In some ways, I think it's smart to target players that are living out of state anyway. NSW/QLD players that are playing for the Storm/Warriors for instance.

very keen for this!

Don't mind catching a bit of NRL every now and then but hard to really get behind it without having a proper team.

Also love the idea of reviving and relocating and old team with history instead of starting a new franchise.

Will be getting right behind the bears, might buy a jersey this weekend!

Their retro 1994 one is great but it's bloody hard to get hold of!

They have a number of different jerseys on the website though.

Seems WA media not happy with this. Probably no appetite for RL in Perth
WA media is owned by 7 West media, who have the AFL rights.

Going to be an uphill battle.
