Perth Bears

sounds like it's struggling...?

Look around - the whole world is struggling. worst possible time to be looking at expanding and asking for $300+ million.

"Bears director Billy Moore has been involved in discussions between the NRL and WA government, making it clear he believes a franchise can thrive on the west coast."

If Billy Moore is so confident then they don't need $300+ million.

Rugby league doesn't do expanding & growing the game like the AFL. 27 years in Storm's players are still men who grew up in QLD and NSW (which is fine) because the ALRC won't pay for developing and bedding the sport into VIC.
If the NRL ran the Swans and Lions they would have been wound up ages ago.

The fact is if they knew what they were doing we would have a 30 year old Perth team and a 25 year old Adelaide team ingrained into their cities.

They don’t need to rule their roost but just carve out a peace of the pie.

The obvious flaw in a lot of peoples thinking is that all things can be equal.
The AFL has a great product and it's well worth exploring expansion.
The NRL has a good product and it'd be worth exploring expansion if it wasn't for AFL.

I understand why they don't when you can draw so many players from outside of Australia, but the failure to spend (more) money in Victoria especially to grow the game is a bloody disgrace.

Roger Cook making the cardinal sin of not curtseying before Peter V'landys and kissing his foot.
It’s ridiculous the cult like following he has.

His fans just live off his sugar highs to hide his failings.

"Bears director Billy Moore has been involved in discussions between the NRL and WA government, making it clear he believes a franchise can thrive on the west coast."

“We are very hopeful the Western Bears will not be dead,” he said.

“This is not a shotgun marriage, it’s a perfect fit. There’s no doubt WA is currently an AFL state but I see it very much like Queensland where all sports have a bona fide supporter and participation base.

“There doesn’t have to be a sporting war, just a realignment of attention. Until the box is ticked and we get the nod, I accept there is a possibility that something could go wrong.

“But I know from our talks the WA government very much wants a team in Perth.”

None of this one line bullshit from our resident troll, but the whole quote.

I find this part interesting considering how AFL is treated in Sydney by SEN Sydney and the NRL.

We're not talking about Sydney though or AFL, so it's irrelevant and a whole different issue which isn't relative to this thread. Clearly there's a long way to go there, but as we've seen with QLD it's only a matter of time before it will become part of the sporting landscape.

I'm a staunch believer in the co-existence of multiple sporting codes. I love one with a passion and one with a dwindling passion. I follow and watch multiple sports on any given day.

The code wars are a wank. Childish and pathetic.

I know, just commented on a line I found interesting considering.

choice and more sport is always the answer

100% loath it.

I found it encouraging, but I can understand where you're coming from as a Giants fan.

Honestly, I don't rely on the Victorian media very much for my Rugby league news or listen to SEN. At the end of the day they'll promote what sells. Ultimately, one day, that will be the Giants. The media can't continue to ignore one of the most watchable teams in the AFL.

As I said "If Billy Moore is so confident then they don't need $300+ million."

Do you believe they can start up without a huge handout?

I see you criticise the NRL for not spending more in Victoria why nnot W.A.?

P.S. I thought it was against the rules to post whole swags from articles ?

I'm a staunch believer in the co-existence of multiple sporting codes.

Same here, but i also believe in fairness and sporting bodies standing without government assistance.
The W.A. government built a rectangular stadium specifically for the Force so a NRL side could fill that hole.
IMO the "Bears" concept has nothing going for it w.r.t. W.A. and I have said IMO
a relocated Cronulla would slot in nicely - name, colours and following.

Do you really favour the Bears over Cronulla ?

The media can't continue to ignore one of the most watchable teams in the AFL.

But it has, and it does. That is a fact.
That's why it's not irrelevant to this thread to look at the situation in W.A.
Luckily the W.A. media will give any sport a fair go.

He never said they did.

Do you believe they can start up without a huge handout?

Why would they be any different to the expanded AFL teams?

There's no team in WA. When there is I would hope the do.

P.S. I thought it was against the rules to post whole swags from articles ?

It is. It's also stupid to post parts which suit your agenda.

But it has, and it does. That is a fact.

Like in Victoria. They will promote what sells.

That's why it's not irrelevant to this thread to look at the situation in W.A.

Good. More reason to pop a team in WA.

Cook just released details of offer.
No license fee or stadium upgrade.
$20 million for "centre of excellence".
$30 million for "grassroots".

One day later.

"There's one reason and one reason only this NRL deal for WA is not going ahead... because the State Government were caught red handed preparing to spend $330mil on what would have been one of the greatest overspends in this state's history.

It was a terrible, wasteful deal - and I along with my Liberals WA colleagues are proud to have called it out - and saved WA taxpayers a fortune in the process." Basil Zempilas.

If Perth get an NRL team will the nrl become the geographically largest league in the world. Have team Perth and Auckland, also team from Melbourne to PNG.

Man, I’d love it if they played a couple games a year out of North Sydney Oval.
They were supposed to be playing at least one game a year there. Think they'd be hard pressed getting more than that.

Won't be easy splitting games between Perth/Sydney.
