It was a piss poor decision by the ref. Berisha copped slight contact prior to the air swing, but certainly not enough to warrant a penalty. That said, Berisha had 3 guys on his hammer, one who stupidly went to ground. If you go to ground in the box trying to tackle from behind, you leave yourself at the whim of the ref.

Question for everyone... How many A-League players would take a dive in the 95th minute of the GF at 1-1, in the box? Doesn't make it right, but I believe more than 50% would go down.

What's wrong with the sportsmanship? Celebrating a premiership is criminal now? What are the players, staff and fans supposed to do? Convene in a church and pray for forgiveness?

Heffernan stays on, the ball doesn't get to the box, no penalty to give. That's how I saw it. If it got to the box, he looked solid all night and probably would have helped see off the danger.

Instead, he gave it up with his own stupidity, and no-one is giving him a bake for his selfish stupidity. Of course the ref is the easy target, understandable, but for it to get to the stage where the ref had to make that decision, Heffernan played a huge part.

Nope, it is how I saw it. Heffernan was playing well, do you disagree?

Do you think if he was on, in an 11vs11 situation, that the ball would have made it a position where Berisha could dive in the box?

I personally think that was the catalyst that allowed the controversial moment to exist. Nothing more, nothing less.

I've said Berisha dived. I've said it was a bad look. I'm going on record as saying it shouldn't have been a penalty.

I've also said if you go to ground trying to tackle from behind in the box, you leave yourself at the whim of the ref.

What part do you disagree with?

Everything perth did wrong the flog with whistle punished them for, you guys were given the game instead of earning it in the next 30 mins

Disgraceful that a league title can be decided by a blatant bit of cheating like that.

There was no contact at all from the Glory players and the Roar player just threw himself to the ground, then jumped up and celebrated when he conned the dumbarse ref into awarding a penalty kick.

Great season from the Glory nonetheless, just a shame it had to end like that.

Which part of what I've said do you disagree with?

You seem stuck on the final moments... I'd like to know your view on Heffernan and the impact he had on the game.

You cant categorically say that Heff would have stopped that attack forward. Its just playing hypothetical. He could have scored an own goal

The ONLY thing that you can say for sure, is that if the penalty was not given (which you have stated it should have not been) then the game would have gone to extra time

Anything other than that statement as likely as possible is just playing hypothetical
 
What's the point a dive decided the contest not heff I'm not getting your angle and why u think it's more important than the incorrect decision. That did ruin the game?

We haven't even got to the straight red their captain should've received for breaking smeltzs nose and giving him a deep cut. The dimwit ref even gave them the free for it!!
He elbowed smeltz n the face during the challenge.
That incident changed the game. Dirty team to boot.

Soccer is the sort of sport that always finds a way to shoot itself in the foot when it comes to being accepted in the Australian sporting culture. I didnt watch the game, because i vowed to never give a crap about the sport again after the Neil incident against Italy in 2006.

The game is fickle and too easy to corrupt by officials, players and administration. Cheats are actually awarded trophies and championships. Oh well, good for the AFL.

Of course nothing can be stated categorically. When dealing in hypotheticals, I try to deal in probables over possibles. Heffernan was playing well, all Glory fans would agree, it is hard to see how him being on the field wouldn't have made a difference.

Again, it wasn't more important, but it allowed the situation that caused the most important decision to happen. Big difference there.

No reasoning? I'm just asking about Heffernan and why no-one has given him any stick for his ill-discipline, particularly given his position and where the controversy took place, you have to understand that he would have been in the thick of the action...

Personally, Smith was lucky not to get a yellow. I doubt it was intentional, but it was reckless.

Homer with out wanting to nit pick heff got sent off in the final mins but anyways to answer your point it was needless yes.

The problem is is that the ref killed the game with the dodgy penalty.

whilst we are playing hypotheticals glory could have held on in extra time all things being equal and then penalties are a lottery.

I've also said anyone tackling from behind, going to ground, in the box, is at the whim of the ref... More fact.

I have said that Heffernan was stupid and ill-disciplined... Fact.

The what-if is based on the likelihood of Heffernan playing his normal position on Berisha's final break. Not fact, but based on my respect for his form through the day.

Feel free to tell me what you disagree with. Or you could just continue to ramble about 'taint' and 'fantasy', and whatever else you continue to ignore my posts with. :)

All very valid. My hypothetical had Heffernan staying on (if he had any discipline), 1-1 at Full Time and anything happening. The ref made the big howler. Heffernan's departure simply gave the entire scenario the opportunity to arise.

Butterfly effect... If he didn't get sent off, anything else could have happened. After he got sent off, the controversy arose... What is factually incorrect there?
 
Well done to the Brisbane player who admitted it wasnt a penalty.

I only saw a replay of the earlier clash, both should have been in trouble for that encounter.
