What was the reason for the glass fronts rather than what is at MCG and Docklands?

Seems like a good idea in theory but unpopular in practises.

It’s probably concrete, we are complaining because of the one steel bit, when in reality we probably have more viewing

Went to open day and happy with wheelchair access except for one major problem which they will need to sort out. The only was to the levels is via lifts which was full of lazy walkers who wouldn't use the stairs or esculators meaning people with wheelchairs and prams were waiting over 20 min to get in a lift and this was only 10,000 people so i can only imaging how bad 60,000 game day would be.
Good luck getting in a lift if you were on floors 2,3 or 4 as every time they open they were full. I did send feedback to stadium and hopefully they do like they do at perth arena after concerts and only let wheelies/prams in lifts for first 15 mins . Also bit of a worry if they was a fire or some sort of emergency as the lifts are usually shut down then.
Appreciate your thoughts and understand for those in wheelchairs etc, but don't forget some people have respiratory problems and find it difficult climbing stairs so they may appear able but can't always go by appearances. Not saying that there aren't some lazy sods around though!

The open day on Sunday had several thousand people roaming around lost. Lots of families with young kids in prams which where queued in front of lifts. One lift I queue at stayed on level five for several minutes and with the queue I was in it would take half an hour to go up to one level.. From reports all escalators will be going up at the start of the game and change to downwards later in the game. Once the footy starts people will settle in their level which will make it less a problem of what I witnessed on Sunday. The same goes for transport to and from the stadium.

Adelaide Oval does this in the Riverbank/Eastern Stands.

While it's a free for all in the Western Stands, there's only a handful of wheelchair spots on levels 3/4, and the lifts aren't in an overly convenient spot, so there isn't any issues AFAIK.

The other issue with lift being the only option is when there's a power failure, which happened at Coopers Stadium in November, stranding about a dozen patrons on level 5.

Most lifts built nowadays come with their own back up supply although I think in the event of a power failure it would only go to the next available floor to save the power and stay there. Several lifts at some Melbourne train stations were controversial in the early part of the decade for constantly losing power with no back up supply, and since then lifts have to either have a back up supply, or a ramp nearby, e.g Sunshine station in Melbourne's west

Saw on one of the videos promoting the stadium about the ‘locker room’ seats... sounded pretty cool.... watch your team warm up.. enter the field through your seats.. watch post game interviews etc..

Was curious if anyone can answer a few/any of these questions.

Is this only available to view the home teams rooms etc or will they be available for travelling team supporters too?

Has there been any mention of a price for a one off game?

Looked for info on this but couldn’t find any.. thanks.

I think it's only available to West Coast and Freo supporters

Yeah only Freo and Eagles. Think they missed a trick with that one. Unique experience that would have brought in tourism $$. Even the coaches box experience is only for the home sides. 3 coaches boxes - visiting teams is off to the side and looks half as big as the 2 dedicated for the WA sides.

Are they using a picture of Adelaide Oval to promote a Perth Stadium event :D

They definitely didn’t think that through... easily would have sold well to Richmond.. Essendon Collingwood supporters etc making the trip over... such a unique experience.. would have been great.

Two things though:
1. Do you want to be offering other teams "advantages" in marketing and exposure in your market?
2. Do away clubs want to be doing this, especially as it will only be at one venue, and an increase in attendance at away games benefits their sporting and business rivals?

Optus Stadium defends access for disabled

A key consultant on disability issues at Optus Stadium has rejected concerns parking restrictions will make it hard for disabled people to attend.

https://thewest.com.au/news/wa/optus-stadium-defends-access-for-disabled-ng-b88725877z

Anyone else reckon that this article resulted from a non-existant issue (perhaps for the government to show off the extensive facilities). Particularly since the only source of an issue is stated as follows "The move has caused consternation among some disabled people who claim 60 bays is not enough and the three-week application period makes it difficult to attend."

Very conveniently did't mention the lift problems. Also the taxi rank is one loop with no access to get up the gutters. My taxi had to park up on the footpath so i could get out.

Lifts are going to be an issue in every venue and I'd suggest it's more a people problem. They're simply not capable of transporting masses efficiently to the same degree as stairways or escalators. The nature of the event where people were simply exploring is also very different to an entertainment/sporting event.

There’s always going to be teething issues with any new stadium build, but I think they will have to go back to the drawing board with the way those rails are designed. I feel sorry for the Eagles and Dockers members paying out hundreds a year to put up with that.

Etihad was built nearly 20 years ago and the rails there are only a minor inconvenience. Those seats behind the railing are the equivalent of sitting in those seats right next to the scoreboard at Etihad.

Interesting that the digital part of the sight-screen is the "LED screen" style like at Manuka, ANZ, Spotless, Etihad, et al (non-Test grounds) and not the ones like they have at the Test grounds that have the white blinds that can go down for the red/pink ball. I was expecting the ones from the WACA would have come across after the last BBL game there. I guess that will have to happen before next summer for the Border-Gavaskar Test.
