Perth Stadium

Yeah, but it's still an awesome ground to go to, to get around, and to watch footy in. I understand that the Perth Stadium needs to be significantly larger, but it seems like you're buying a Porsche, when a Toyota will do just as fine for half the price.

After a Lada Niva for the last 30+ years I think a bit of luxury is more than overdue.

it will be knocked down they just don't want to say it right away.

maybe those fools in subiaco who had a whinge about the previous developments will realize their entertainment distinct will probably die.

I believe this also. It will either sit therre idle for a few years and come the next East Perth Power Station-esque site until the govt decides to do something with it or the stadium project budget will blow out and Emperor Barnett will 'come up' with the brilliant idea of flogging it off to fund the shortfall.

I may have missed this, but what is the ovals AFL dimensions (similar to subi? MCG?...)

Somewhere in between. Not as long as Subiaco but a bit wider. They needed to make it wider to fit the ICC's minimum requirements for international cricket. Leaving it the same length would have made it very large in terms of ground area, so they reduced the length a bit. But it will still be larger in terms of area than Subi, if that makes sense.

bit off topic but i wonder where that leaves the WACA.

The WACA will remain. The only cricket that will likely move to the new stadium will be domestic T20, and perhaps the occasional ODI where they will be expecting a huge crowd. Everything else will stay at the WACA, and they will decide which games get moved, presumably based on carefully modelling the break-even point in terms of ticket sales. They've already said that test cricket will stay at the WACA. I can't see them shifting shield cricket there and making a profit out of the 1500 people that turn up.

No - actually I don't want a shitty half done stadium.

Should be ready on time. Stadiums aren't really as complex as other buildings when you think about it. Most of the volume is empty space! In reality you're pouring the outside circumference.

I would guess that the most difficult part of the whole construction would be the foundations. By your updates we have receieved, the swampy ground is ready to go!

I wouldn't be so sure about that. As far as I was reading about the other day nothing has been confirmed for renovations at the WACA and it's reaching a stage if it doesn't renovate before this new stadium is opened it will face huge pressure to secure the funding. The cricket traditionalist will fight for the WACA but those who control the cash will say why not just move in to a 60k venue that's ready to go. The WACA is going to have to fight.

The WACA might get tests against some opponents but it's hard not to argue that big drawing tests like the Ashes and v India shouldn't be at the new stadium.

Last i heard the WACA ground will lose it's international test status so all tests will be held at the new stadium which was a large part of why the design needing to fit ICC guidelines.
