Our history as a club suggests that we are far better off drafting players in the 3rd/4th round compared to high profile players that we trade in. The future should be all about 'no risks' and playing the percentages. Drafting an Apeness who had dodgy knees and then has to retire early due to dodgy knees just can't be part of our recruitment makeup any more. Draft solid citizens that are grounded individuals who are obsessed with the game.

Touche but I think we're getting there when you look at the Brayshaw/Cerra and the Young/Serong draft. The Jesse trade, I hope, is the last vestige of Freo's woeful trading history.

so let me get this straight, your complaining that Fremantle have a long history of not making finals and have brought in a long line of players with various issues to try and win our first premiership including Tarrant, slyvia, McCarthy, Bennell, Hogan etc which clearly hasn’t worked out. Then we get a football manager who says we got it wrong, we are not going to stand for this as a club and cut ties with these players who don’t want to put in effort.

I’m just a little confused do you wanna continue to except mediocrity or try something new and actually put club culture first ? I know personally I’m all for trying something new because what we have done previously which is turning a blind eye to these sort of players certainly hasn’t worked.
How is it that a club cannot learn from there mistakes over and over and over again?!?

And what did the great man Albert Einstein define as insanity....????

Go check out the List Management thread and people were still saying we had to find a way to get Logan McDonald.

As supporters it seems we still haven't learnt but I hope the club has.

What's wrong with McDonald?
Nothing. We *think he’s an elite talent (won’t know for sure till he plays some AFL games). But to get him we’d need pick 1. To get pick 1, we’d need to hand over pick 12, next years first rounder and a decent player.
no risk of going **** up at all there eh?

That trade is rediculous. But I still think there's more merit taking a risk to bring in an elite draftee than to bring in someone with known issues. Bennell, Hogan and arguably McCarthy are 'high profile' trades that busted in recent history. For the right reaching trade to get MacDonald, I'd do it. He doesn't have any known issues. If an issue arises with him, that's bad luck. Recently our problem players weren't the victim of bad luck, it was poor 'due diligence' or player assessment. Their issues were in front of us, we just chose to ignore them. That's my beef.

So what you are saying is we could get the next Riewoldt (either) for Lachie Weller, Tom Sheridan and Mitch Crowden (or Freddie) to Adelaide?

Can you please prepare the papers for signing?

You have lost me? Weller? Sheridan?
next years first rounder would be pick 7 looking at this years finishing positions. Pick 7 in a super-draft would be nice To keep

We got Weller at 13 (close to 12), and Shero at 16 which is hopefully closer to what we get next year when he hit top 8 plus the FA comps. Pick 7 means we have gone nowhere.

Point is, the unknown pick is always a potential star but if you look at our record of selecting players outside the top 10, it is pretty sobering reading.

I'll tell you this for nothing, if Ted Kaczynsi did me a solid and lent me his belt there's no way I'd be throwing it away to look like a big man!
Not sure about that, here is the belt..

Every draft is different.

Sheridan's draft lost 12 pre-drafted players to the GWS.

Weller's draft was pretty even from 4-15.

Considering that is draft has been comprised by bid players and the Victorian kids not playing, pick 12 isn't the same as other years.

Not sure Collingwood would do it but I offer our pick 12 and 2021 second round for their 2021 first round. Magpies has a father son would go early in the draft and would trade that pick away.

Gives us two first round picks in draft that is consider a super draft.

I would do this if it was also somehow possible to bring out second pick this year forward from 32 to 24 or therabouts, enough to get us one live selection before the bids on Walker and Western.

Why do people here think a football manager gets things 100% correct every time? Totally unrealistic, the best people realise mistakes, learn, move on and improve.
The morbid fascination with negativity is soooo boring..
Gotta agree here
Tying Bell to the pole for a flogging is out of order
Count up all the good trades he's bought in over his time ( hell this time last year I thought he was a fricken genius )
The Hogan one could have been the greatest of all if Hogan had of just pulled his head in and done his job , he is a brilliant player and would not have been shown the door without very good reason .
To the fella who had his pants around his Ankles showing off his Tommy Helfinger daks , you probably needed a belt mate , shit look !
