Of course, you can suspect whatever you like.Yes agreed, if looked at in isolation we don't know that it isn't some part of the brilliant master plan and we shouldn't be worried.
If looked at in the context of how well we've gone with managing senior and assistant coaches, trading, player development/retention, fitness/medical, membership, media presence, standing up to the AFL, flag by 2020 etc etc we equally don't know it isn't another piece of evidence of mediocre or worse football club management from the president down.
We don't know but we can each have our suspicions.
Have often thought that the 95% floor defeats the intention of free agency and that it should be dropped to 90% — hadn't considered the idea that it's the AFLPA that's getting in the way of that. All clubs sit within a 5% range (95-100) except those that have been below 100 that are above the 100 for a year.
The AFLPA doesn't allow clubs to pay less than 95% of the cap. That's about $650,000 of range between all clubs.

On the surface at least, I really liked SOS' idea of only having a minimum list size but no maximum. Means developing clubs can spread the excess salary over 10 draftees rather than overpaying potatoes like Carlton must have been doing for the last 5 years. Likewise a contending club can strip back to the minimum to attract a lower number of better players.Have often thought that the 95% floor defeats the intention of free agency and that it should be dropped to 90% — hadn't considered the idea that it's the AFLPA that's getting in the way of that.
Ok, you give me the total of the player payments that Freo are paying the players in 2021 and I'll stop being lazy and make comment on it v the max cap and what I think it should be based on the age profile of our players and position on the ladder in 2020. Waiting in anticipation for your reply with that total.
You are grasping at straws.
If you can't put two and two together and draw your own conclusions that's on you. You KNOW our age and list profile and you KNOW our ladder position from the last 5 years. That is all you need to know. We should be paying as little of the cap as possible or we are overpaying.
I think it's funny that you consider the club so infallible that you will only consider them poorly managed if you have visible, definitive proof (proof you know is not going to be furnished). After 5 years of missing finals, you think it's more likely that we are doing some fancy accounting to free up space for a free agent? Ever heard of Occam's razor?
Its almost like we didn't just send Jesse Hogan to GWS for a pack of chips.
"As little of our cap as possible" is still 95%.You are grasping at straws.
