Anyone at the Wandin V Woori game today what were your thoughts?

Just before the 3/4 time siren Paul Grayling chased down a Woori player and tackled him to the ground, correctly holding the ball was paid. From where i was standing it looked as though the Woori player wasnt happy with the tackle and tried to remonstrate with Grayling. Cameron ran in and warned the Wandin player for something he must of seen ( not sure what) and preceeded to hold the game up for about minute while trying to face off with the Wandin player who did his best to completely ignore him and take his kick. The siren sounded and the teams went to their huddles and Cameron continued to argue with the players for another minute. By this time the situation had turned into a debacle and supporters were on the ground getting involved. If umps could recieve yellow/red cards then Cameron most certainly deserved one for this effort. One of the poorest displays i have seen from an umpire in my life. :thumbsd:

Yep, it was certainly the Peter Cameron show down at Wandin this afternoon. Plenty of technical free kicks and a dozen or so 50m penalties, as well as that farcial incident that you referred to. That's Camo, though. He's such a good bloke that I really don't mind when he spoils the game.

I heard Peter as a guest speaker year and he discussed the modified rules for the league (not sure if he was including Div 1 or just Div2). I can't think what the differences were but if supporters were made aware of them there would probably be a lot less angst towards umpires. It's natural to think they're not umpiring well when we expect the same decisions as in the AFL. Does anyone know what the differences in the rules/interpretations are?

This post is no reference to the original comments about Peter, I didn't see that game. It's also no reference to decisions, or lack thereof, in last weeks Yarra Glen-Thornton game.

Good question Rosy3.

I checked web site, nothing found.

Have sent an email to admin yvmdfl asking them for a link or other info so we can post.

Cheers

I didn't know there were modifed rules - the league operates under the laws of the game as administered by the AFL/VCFL. Perhaps the interpretations are a little bit different in comparison to what we see on TV.

Camo is a great bloke and has certainly provided great service to umpiring and the league in general.

Thank goodness the powers to be had the decency to back off on the ridiculous swearing rules that were enforced so pedantically last week. Far better to let the game flow, as in the Boners/Yarra Glen game today. Not a 50 penalty or a yellow card in sight. I'm sure it must have been better for the players and it was certainly better for the supporters. I imagine the umpires were a lot happier too.

So you fellas would be happy with yourselfs for bagging someone personally on a chat site and dedicating an entire thread to it. Big loss now that he is leaving.

All the best to Cammo and well done on his efforts with the umpires. Despite all our criticisms, they do a pretty good job on the whole.

Any truth the league has already sounded out the possible return of the Edwards dynasty to coach the umpiring group in 2009. They were the team who had umpiring at such a high standard with amazing numbers that were the envy of other leagues a few years ago.
