Daicos 20 & 3'd a total of twenty times throughout his 250 game career.

Johnson has 20 & 3'd a total of thirty times throughout his 222 game career.
If anything, Johnson is still a very underrated footballer and has been for a very long time now. Even Ablett Junior hasn't 20 & 3'd anywhere near that tally just yet.

Johnson isnt an underrated footballer. He's rated highly among neutrals, coaches, and media commentators alike. But its fanciful to even compare, let alone put him in the same category as Daicos.

Its like comparing Franklin to Ablett Senior. Both played similar positions and roles during their peak and Franklin will likely spend more and more time parked as a full time forward as he enters his 30s as Ablett did. But its not even close, is it? Another comparison would be Sam Mitchell to Greg Williams. Mitchell is an out and out gun. But he can't hold a candle to Diesel, can he?

The past generation of players I've mentioned are just streets ahead of their modern day counterparts, mostly because they were producing football that hadn't been seen up until that point. These were the guys that ultimately formed the mould of what modern footballers should be. Shit. Collingwood would eventually build their premiership side around Daicos playing at full forward. Daicos is 184cms tall. I would love to see how Geelong would fare relying on Johnson as their main goal kicker while lacking quality tall forward options. Defenders would massacre him. Massacre him.

go back and read my post carefully as I did not compare Johnson's stats to Daicos, I merely highlighted how well Johnson made the transition to midfield when you compare average midfielders (25-28 possessions per game) to his.

And wouldn't playing a full season in midfield greatly reduce Johnson's goal averages?
It's a fair assumption that Johnson would have kicked 47 goals in 2012 had he played forward, right?

That's an opinion but how can you tell me to not use disposal averages in Johnson's favor when Daicos played in a era where forwards scored far more heavily than in today's game where it's largely based around being unselfish and giving them off?

You also mention Daicos started off his career better which means Johnson's broken ankles at the start of his career is pretty much irrelevant?
Stevie J was a hell of a player, he was Collingwood bound prior to his best, trade was done pending a medical, Collingwood quack failed him lol.

But brother, he wasn’t on the same planet as Daicos, Daicos was firmly on track to be the GOAT before injuries hit, then to come back after losing his speed is a credit to just how good he was, i know Stevie, he would piss himself laughing at this comparison.

Loved the interview Josh Daicos gave when recruited, was asked how he perceived the pressure of being Peter’s son, his answer, “I always knew Dad played footy, I never knew how good he was until I was a teenager, Dad never spoke about his playing days.

Class.
