Parkin got the mail off a Saints board poster. The guy seems to have good info. Disappointing if true.
I would think if the saints knew Bailey was going to nominate them, then this is something that their media guys would be spinning to their advantage and trying to use it to sell memberships at Seaford.

Lifelong Carlton fan has a chance to walk to Carlton and chooses not to right as we're kicking starting a modernisation era at the club? Someone should tap him on the shoulder and point out what happened the last time we tried that (George Harris era).

Honestly if it's true (and I don't think it is) then his word is worthless. Up until 6 months ago he might have had a point from a career standpoint, but today, now, he's being an idiot given his love of the club.

If SOS is half the trade table player he is cracked up to be (and with all the names everybody thinks we're interested in, even factoring in dumb arse press floating any name that pops into their head), Bailey would best serve the CFC by staying undecided as long as possible before choosing us, preferably until after the trade period.

Even if Rice nominates Seaford the show aint over... presuming there's a bid in the 2nd round and after St Kilda trade for Carlisle and Freeman, who's to say we can't outbid them? Not like Bailey would be shattered with his close #2 preference.
That's not how the bidding system works. If St Kilda is his preference, we'd have to pre-emptively select him and hope the Saints decline to match, which they likely would.

There's no auctioning process, they just get the points taken from next year's draft if they don't have enough left this year.

yep, I wasn't overly clear. Point was that if we have pick 30-odd from trades, and the Saints have not much between 20 and 50 we may still trump them. Still don't fully understand the system but it's a step up (and more fun) than the old one.

Under the new bidding system, which will take place live during the NAB AFL Draft in November, Rice can nominate both clubs but must name one as his first preference.
If his nominated club chooses not to match a bid when it comes, the second club will have the option to jump in and match the bid.

Right then and there we should say go **** your self (in the event that st.kilda didn't match) if he's not interested as picking carlton as his first preference right now be never will.

Does anyone think.....even for one moment.....that we may not be quite willing enough, to commit to him? It does work both ways.

Maybe Bailey wants to come to Carlton but we don't quite rate him where others may be willing to pick him up.

Father/Sons are anything but a free hit any more. Would North sooner have Cripps/McCarthy or McDonald now....and things have got tighter since then.

Yup that's all correct, was just letting F know that they don't need to outbid us pick wise and in the scenario in which he gives them first preference they're odds on to match any bid unless we lose our minds and bid with something like pick 12.

The first preference is very important; secondary preferences would only come into play at extreme ends of the draft order (i.e. one F/S club rates him top 5 and a bid comes in then or one F/S club doesn't rate him at all for a senior list spot).

Surely we could just say we're interested and let the chips fall where they may?

Anyhow no hard feelings to young Bailey, its his own decision for his future and we should respect that. Sure it mustn't have been easy for him.

Hope we can force St Kilda to give up a 2nd rounder for him though. Don't want the Saints to get a freebie.
