I reckon it's a slap in the face for all CFC stakeholders.
Which part? The one where we didn't fight to the death for another HBF'er?

Carlisle wanted to come to us but we stood firm on the money and tenure..................................................................tick to the CFC
Rice would have been happy to come here but we didn't allow our pride to get in the way of proper management.........another tick for the CFC

You guys are confused. Seriously.

Wow we must have really sunk to the bottom if playing for St Kilda is more appealing than playing for Carlton :(
Not really. If I was a HBF I'd choose the Saints too.

Half the Emerald Isle is on our list waiting to play half back. Plus Simpson, Buckley, Docherty, Rainbow, Dick, Holman. Weitering will probably have to cut his teeth on a HBF in his first year.

I realise we love the father-son angle, but the reality is it wouldn't have been the best career move for him, so it's hard to be upset.

Half back flanker today and gun inside mid tomorrow. This is a loss.

It's not a freebie though. He will be bid on where he is rated and the Saints get a 20% discount. Theoretically the players taken around him should be just as capable.

Come on man, we finished dead last and we are universally recognised as having the worst list in the AFL... Apart from Zach, none of the Irish boys have shown enough to suggest they can become regulars at AFL level....Simmo is most likely done after next year, Buckley is inconsistent and you would expect him to be pushed out of the team as our rebuild progresses... As for Rainbow, Dick and Holman... They have shown next to nothing between them

We have holes in every position on the field including HBF'ers

We see things quite differently!

I fully expect Byrne and Sheehan to make it, and Buckley will be sticking around too.

I hope you're right, either way I think having as much talent on the list as possible can only be a good thing. If we could have drafted a player ranked in the 20's with a pick in the 40's, then it could have only been a positive.

Either way we have to make sure we nail the next 2 drafts or else we are forked

Sometimes you just have to back what you've got in one area of the ground and concentrate elsewhere.....We need mids and goal-kickers now.
Except Rice is as much a midfield prospect as anything else.

Whatever he's really worth, we would have been getting him at a discount under F/S. It's Macca and SOS' jobs to convince talent to play for Carlton. In this case they failed - and that includes choosing to fail.

Maybe we just don't rate him that highly. Or maybe he nominates us as his second preference anyway, based on the assumption he'll get more opportunities early on at St Kilda.

In the end, it's his call. We don't know his reasons, so it's pretty harsh to go blaming the club for not convincing him to nominate us.

Whose job is it to convince him again?
Always a 50/50 chance mate. Plenty of possible scenarios:

We don't rate him that highly.
We don't see an immediate role for him in the best 22.
St Kilda have promised him a starting 22 spot.
He wants to be closer to home.
St Kilda possibly better placed to take him (based on available picks).

I'm sure there are plenty of other things going through his and our minds. And ultimately, he hasn't said no to Carlton, just that of the two St Kilda is his preference.

Unless you know all the inside info, not much point slinging mud at the club - it just comes across as bitter.

Is he though? Maybe, but we hear it all to often and it rarely eventuates and not just with us.

Why not develop someone we've had in the system for a year, for whom we handed over an even higher pick for?
Someone who spent plenty of time on the HBF but was going to work his way into the midfield.................remember him? His name is Viojo-Rainbow.

He was rated a mid to late 2nd round pick by most good judges, so is still no certainty to make it as an AFL player.

At least our recruiting guys can actually earn there pay check and recruit for need rather than be hamstrung by father son selections.

I reckon Bailey flipped a coin. Don't be too harsh. I hope he has a successful career. Dean didn't look like a footballer but certainly played like one and I think Bailey is much the same. I think he's ready to play next year. Very mature body. It would have been nice to see him play at Carlton but what can you do. We still have Jack Silvagni so I'm pinning my hopes on him having a successful career with the Blues.

Have we become such a rabble that a kid whose father who won a premiership for us and the kid grew up barracking for the club chooses bloody St Kilda. Sad indictment on our once proud and mighty club. Remember when we were the desired destination? Now we can't even get kids who grew up supporting us to come and play for us. God I hope Bolton,SOS and co get us back to being the desired destination again.

It sounds like some supporters are on the verge of slashing their wrists because a kid chose another club. So few have seen this kid play & yet apparently it's the end of the world because he didn't join our club. Some describe him as a future gun midfielder, yet he struggled to have an impact playing an easier role off HB during the TAC Cup finals. The kid may have a more ready made body for AFL football at the moment, but I'm confident Jack Silvagni will ultimately end up the better player as his body develops.
