IMMIGRATION Minister Peter Dutton has given his approval of the controversial billboard featuring two young Muslim girls wearing hijabs.
In an interview with 3AW, Mr Dutton described the billboard as “great”, saying Australians should not be offended by the hijab or headscarf if they see it in public.
“I think it’s great that we’ve got young boys, young girls from whatever background who are embracing Australian values, flying the Australian flag, proud to be Australian, proud to be part of our society, want to be part of a peaceful future in this country,” Mr Dutton said.

“They’re all the values that all of us embrace.”

“People have different elements to their dress and their culture that they embrace,” he said.

The problem I have with those who oppose multiculturalism is that the goal posts constantly move, first it was Italians, and Greeks that we were meant to fear, then the Asians, now it's the Muslims that are destroying our way of life. All they really promote is an unreasonable fear of the "other".

I remember for Howard it was Asians, and not being part of the "main" culture keeping to their own "enclaves". Fast forward a generation and the kids mix. Same will happen organically as long as they feel "welcome" - and I don't mean roll over and adopt (in this example) Asian values, just don't have mainstream media and government saying "Asians get lost, you're all sneaky shits who work too hard and take our jobs" (continuing example)
