An already unelectable Mutton wants to tribute a ped0/ped0 enabler?

He really thinks that plays well?

Hey, that pedo vote's an election winner, I tells ya!

An election winner!

:drunk: :poo:

Can't believe they persecuted him. I mean, he was only a convicted pedophile by a jury of his peers. It was later overturned by the High Court. But there was definitely a year of Pell's life when he was a convicted pedophile.

Important to note, he wasn't wrongly convicted (i.e. nobody lied or proved it definitely wasn't him)

These conservatives will go to their graves both literally and politically defending a probable pedo and definite pedo-enabler and victim harrasser.

It makes you wonder why.

Why support such a person, and why is this the only conviction they're sticking with? The Nats abandoned the free market this morning (they've always been socialism for me, capitalism for thee).

Climate change, they equivocate.

But George Pell - unanimously a great fella amongst conservatives. Considered a Rock Spider by 80% of the population.

Not that this would make him any better, but it's even more bemusing because he's about as charismatic as a doorknob, so you can't even really say that he sucked his advocates in.

I think that some people still defend Pell because of 1) misguided tribalism, 2) politics (Howard/Dutton).

Doesn't Dutton keep banging on about protecting kids in Indigenous communities as the reason why he walked out of the apology and won't support the Voice?

Yet he'll support a likely paedophile and someone who definitely allowed paedophiles to continue working in the community.

Yeah, and wasn’t it the Christian missions that went through the indigenous communities, stealing their children and introducing paedophilia?

Seriously LNP/Sky/Murdoch press are so in thrall of Fox News and culture wars in America, they forget what country actually votes in our elections.

This Pell persecution BS pay play well to bible bashers in the US, but it’s a very small percentage here.

They are detached from reality, as even if you go down the track Pell wasn’t a pedo himself he certainly protected pedos he knew about.

Funnily enough most of the Australian public aren’t going to be going into bat for Pell in a culture war.

Compulsory voting. The unmotivated who usually wouldn’t give a stuff are forced to vote, and they usually go with the saner/least threatening option, so usually a moderate or centrist.

The other thing is religious observance.
Statistics have church attendance at 30% in the US vs 15% in Australia. Although to me 15% is far too high, for example I live near a Catholic Church and in the area there are 2500 Catholics, so statistically about 350 should be attending church each week, but I never see more than about 20 or 30.

Point being religion in Australia takes a much smaller role in public life. I remember once John Howard said “God Bless Australia” (sometime around the Iraq War I believe). It was in the media a bit for being very unusual to say in this country, it never caught on.

Exactly LNP/sky try same culture war bullshit as fox do with a completely different population.

Not sure what the plan is, increase the religious zealot population of Australia?

They've been agitating for an end to compulsory voting for a while. Quietly of course.

I think you'll find that Religion is fading away in Western nations. Young people are less religious than the parents, who in turn were less religious than their own parents.

The thing is, if you aren't brainwashed into religion early in your life, you almost certainly won't take it up EVER. From that, your own kids are not likely to take it up either. Especially if they're 'educated'. ;)

So, yes the Fundy Zealots are about, which makes you think there are lots of them. In fact they are declining in numbers but do remain noisy in social media & still have (waning) political connections!!

Religion is used to control the mass population ….
Those who want to control the mass population don’t need to use religion anymore…

What would be needed to get that across the line? They may have no mainland state governments or federal by the end of March.

Also even without compulsory voting, the relgious culture war BS doesn't work when we have a very small percentage of religous people in relation to the US. UK doesn't have compulsory voting, and its not like bible bashing wins elections there either.

The LNP has a disproportionate amount of religious whackjobs compared to the general population, and funnily enough they are on the nose basically everywhere in Australia now.

I am under no illusion there aren't very many, every census shows we are becoming less and less relgious as an overall population.

It’s no surprise that a man who couldn’t count his own numbers when vying for PM misreads the room on Pell. I work in a Catholic School in a conservative rural electorate and most opinions range from Pell was a paedophile to Pell was a paedophile enabler. The idea that your average punter thinks that George Pell was unfairly persecuted is real cooker shit.

Dutton and the Liberals are going down the old Johnny Howard playbook. They are ignoring the analytics from the last election that showed the millennials voted overwhelmingly for progressive parties. By the time the next election comes around there are going to be 4 years more of millennial voters and 4 years less of Howard worshipping boomers.

Dutton hasn't even pretended that he's going to modernise the party and appeal to younger people though, has he?

They've not learned a lesson yet.

This praising of Pell is just confirmation that they've got no idea why they keep losing and think there really is a silent majority out there with conservative, religious views if only they could appeal to them.

Demographics and election results be damned!
