Peter Dutton - How Long?

Dutton is like a ship without a rudder. Or an engine. Or sails. Or a crew. And unlikely to ever make landfall.

But my goodness I hope he's the oppo leader at the next election. It will be a wipeout.

(Also hopefully all the 'advisers' in his office - are there any?! - please keep them - they are KILLING IT! 🤣)

Like you I hope he is still there, but I suspect they will rotate many through the leadership chair

The entire LNP front bench is totally devoid of any talent

The Teals are even more talented

Some conservatives are saying that Frydo will make a comeback in Aston. Ready to take over from Mr Potato Head if things don't improve.
I'm not sure I'd even bet on the Libs retaining it. If anything in opposition under Dutton their stocks have dropped further since the election.

My first by-election!

I think Labor won the area by a whisker at the state election. Federal Labor are polling even higher, so definitely a chance to flip.

No idea why Tudge put himself through such an ugly campaign twelve months ago only to quit now. I presume he's found some well-paid consultancy position he can hide in?

Will Dutton allow Frydenberg to contest the seat, knowing it’s almost certain Joshy boy will attempt to roll Spud in the near future?

Maybe Dutton thinks by getting Frydo back he can say the Liberals are a ‘big tent party where moderates are welcome’ (the reality is Frydo is a pretty face to make it appear the Libs aren’t dominated by conservatives). So a PR stunt but behind the scenes the conservatives reign supreme.

He won't be able to stop it - preselection will be up to the Vic Libs.

He hardly campaigned at all. He's been tapped on the shoulder I reckon. Read the tea leaves on how he went down at the Robodebt RC.

Curiously I did get robo-polled last week. Questions about Rowville rail among generic voter intention.

They had plenty of ad spend, but his face was poison the ground. Though Labor too only spent a fraction of what they did in Deakin and Chisholm, so they can definitely go harder if they want.

Parachuting Frydentwat in would go down like a lead balloon I reckon. Obviously not a local so would have the Keneally effect. The area is going to be less receptive to a faux-moderate toff than Hawthorn and Kew are.

They should definitely nominate a woman for optics, but I'd be up for seeing Joshie get chased off again and watching Potato panic over his job.

Abbott had Credlin. Love or hate her the retail politics she had him do as opp leader was remarkable.

They had a few tough points STOP the boats/tax/waste. All other stuff voted with Gillard Gove making Gillard govt one of the most effective legislation govts.

Dutton has no coherent strategy, and the electorate is probably wise to it anyway
Getting together with Bandt will be the kiss of death. Ask Albo ...

If they decide on a woman I hope they go nuclear with Peta Credlin or Sophie Miribella.

Frydenberg is not a happy clapper, who are thick on the ground around Scoresby/Wantirna so he doesn't have the same appeal to the electorate as Tudge.

2.8% and Labor rolling along quite nicely - it is a marginal seat and we saw last election with Keneally what happens when you parachute a high profile person in to what you think will be an easy win.

Would Frydo really give up whatever cushy job he has landed just to have his arse handed to him again?

Spender or not spender?

So not labor in disguise then?

I don’t see how not spending on infrastructure is going to arrest inflation. It’ll just increase unemployment, which will decrease inflation but in a bad way. I notice Spender doesn’t want funding for her pet project (renewables) cut.

Interest rates are probably at a suitable level now, and ALP aren’t cutting anyone’s taxes in the next 18 months to flood the economy with money.

Inflation will self correct over the next year without having to cut spending.

This we're the party of the working classes is a curious twist from the guy whose party incorporated deliberate wage suppression as part of it's policy over ten years in government. He must think the rest of Australia is as bog stupid as the dickheads in Dickson who keep re-electing him.
Tbf if he is surrounded by idiots it’s only natural to believe everyone are idiots. Probably only gets his media from curated mainstream and sky news sources

Unfortunately the happy clapper made if far more difficult to unseat a leader......

Still an absolute pig in contrition using women and children as a shield for his prejudice. The only time he ever mentions abuse of women and children is when he can tie it into the Indigenous community.
I want to speak directly to those in the gallery today and further afield who are part of the Stolen Generation and those who are descendants or are connected to the issue and I want to say in an unscripted way - I apologise for my actions and as the Prime Minister is frequently able to point it out that I didn’t attend the chamber for the apology 15 years ago.

I have apologised for that in the past and I repeat that apology again today.

In 2008, I had been out of the Queensland Police Force for about nine years and I was still and probably truthfully to this day lived with those images of turning up to domestic violence incidents where Indigenous women and children had suffered physical abuse, certainly mental abuse, I remember clearly attending Palm Island where I brought back the body of an Indigenous woman in a body bag who had been thrust off a cliff to her death and I remember thinking at the time that those incidents were still occurring on a daily basis in 2008.

And the judgement that I formed was that if we were to make an apology, it needed to be at a time when we had addressed and we had curbed that violence and those incidents.

I failed to grasp at the time the symbolic significance to the Stolen Generation of the apology. It was right for Prime Minister Rudd to make the apology in 2008.

It’s right that we recognise the anniversary today, it’s right that the Government continues its efforts and in whatever way possible, we support that bipartisan effort.
