I'm still don't think it's been adequately explained what operational capability we're gaining for spending hundreds of billions of dollars extra on top of the French deal. Defence spending seems to get a free pass, but heaven forbid there's an overspend anywhere in the social safety net.

I reckon the US should do that. Divide it up into one part with no gun laws, Christian RW rules - no abortion, no drugs, no health care or social safety nets, no immigration, death penalties for whatever they like. Put Trump in as President for life.

Let the other side have no guns, proper health care, social security etc.
let people choose a side to live in & let the other lot get on with how they want to live.

Be an interesting social experiment.

The UK is still very far from the seemingly dystopian nature of the US, it has a wonderful healthcare system, their police are unarmed, a decent social safety net, addressed COVID in a far more logical manner etc. Brexit is a dog's breakfast and it will be interesting to see if they gain any traction with their anti-immigrant rhetoric, but I wouldn't be lumping them in the same basket as the US.

What's crazy is that 20 years ago there was never a need for this kind of legislation because people simply accepted Nazis were horrific people. A genuine Nazi would never dare show their support in public because they knew they would be pariahs. It's a sad state of affairs that there are genuinely people looking to history's worst human beings and unironically backing them.

You possibly didn’t mean me, but in no way was I backing them. In the footage about cable st you saw mosleys fascist opponents were doing the salute in mockery of the fascists.

If that statute was on the books, and the opponents of the Melbourne fascists did the same, no doubt the police with their attitude would have arrested the anti fascists but not the fascists.

They didn’t even book the fascists for jaywalking, another thin Melbourne cops like to spring on people minding their own business

It was funny when Dutton got up and spoke in Parliament about how the Nazis treated the Jews poorly. But he didn't mention what the Nazis did to transgender people, which is also why the nazis attended the anti-trans rally in Melbourne.
