You possibly didn’t mean me, but in no way was I backing them. In the footage about cable st you saw mosleys fascist opponents were doing the salute in mockery of the fascists.

If that statute was on the books, and the opponents of the Melbourne fascists did the same, no doubt the police with their attitude would have arrested the anti fascists but not the fascists.

They didn’t even book the fascists for jaywalking, another thin Melbourne cops like to spring on people minding their own business

I think swastika flags and salutes featured in a musical I saw a few years back. How do you define that as legal but ban it at a political rally in the same theatre, or a musical with pro nazi undertones?
Wasn’t directed at you, two different pars for two different points.

I'd love to know what the interjection was.

According to the aapnews story, it was to do with texts Henderson sent in support of Moira Deeming.

I find it hilarious that the Libs are falling over themselves to show them distancing themselves from Nazis when they've spent the last decade courting them to stop them going to One Nation. Now they're in tears over it.

Did they finally bother to do polling asking

"Does siding with the nazis help the LNP?"

The sad truth of modern “conservatism”.
Just reactionary naysayers.

I think you missed the point of the article.
Oh that’s right, that’s what you do. Pick out one detail from the big picture & then deflect forever from the substance of what’s being argued.

Interesting that the 3 places we’re talking about are all Murdoch dominated & the one where his network is centered and has the most social problems is the one with the most fundamentalist religion dominated.

It’s almost like there’s a correlation between RW media, stupidity & social division! It’s such a wonderful business model, like poker machines or cigarettes. And society somehow still venerates the psychopaths who run these things because they’re rich.
And Canada and NZ, the two Anglosphere countries widely seen as the most sane, are also the two where Turdoch’s influence is weakest.

Only question is, chicken or the egg?

I think there's more than a few places that make it work. There's obvious exceptions for displaying historical artefacts, for performance purposes etc.

What's crazy is that 20 years ago there was never a need for this kind of legislation because people simply accepted Nazis were horrific people. A genuine Nazi would never dare show their support in public because they knew they would be pariahs. It's a sad state of affairs that there are genuinely people looking to history's worst human beings and unironically backing them.
Their understanding of the ending of World War II is diametric to reality.

Lie down with dogs….

Play with fire…

Any number of commonly accepted folk sayings should have given them pause for thought.

When everyone you knew had grandads who were "in the war" and grannys who went through hell while they did it the Nazis were unequivocally evil. That link's gone now and people have forgotten too easily.

Getting those who were at the sharp end to talk about it was/is never easy.

I agree. However one thing I've unfortunately come to realise is there is an increasing number of disenfranchised, angry, stupid young men who like the idea of getting paid to wear a uniform and beat up on minorities with the actual approval of the state. They see only upside in an authoritarian regime with a lunatic like Trump in charge.

The UberTuber is going for that market but fortunately he has even less personality than Ron DeSantis & the charisma of, well, a potato.

Towards the end of her life I started taping all the conversations I had with my granny aware that when she went all that oral history went with her, and she could remember WWI ending.
