Peter Dutton - How Long?

Niki Savva should know that the rump of the party room that supports Dutton cares more about their own ego and winning factional battles than winning elections and until they're gone the Libs are f***ed because sadly for them hard right are quite happy to keep losing elections until they completely control the party.
I've no doubt she does know that, but gotta toe the editorial line and create a narrative etc.

overheard someone commenting on this weeks Q+A episode ......... is it true grant asked paul fletcher whether people are canvassing numbers with a view to lib leadership challenge?

Is Q&A the worst show on television (excluding Sky)?

It's still interesting, sometimes. Basically the only show on TV where the public get to ask questions, and have politicians/famous/notable people debate that topic live on air.

It was much better with Tony Jones as host.

It is all a bit fabricated for mine. It seems like it is way to easy to manipulate the narrative and it spends too much time at the fringes.

As others have noted - maybe Mr Plod just ain't that smart.

"Here lies a big potential clue about Dutton. Unlike Marvel antiheroes – usually evil geniuses – is it possible that Dutton simply isn’t that smart? Equally possible, too, is we are so used to the “evil genius” trope that we can’t see “trying but not that bright” when it is staring us in the face."

That this idiot is the Federal Opposition Leader is bad news for all of us and not just Labor supporters.

Spud really is one of the great thinkers of our time :drunk:
How do you bring back a program that's still running?

But we all know it's just more bullshit from an opposition that is just utterly incompetent and bereft of ideas.

He's closer to Liberace than he is an evil genius.

Pretty much epitomises Hanlon's Razor. And the Peter Principle may as well have been named after him.

I don't know that he does, and not having a crack at all but I think that's an easy out for Dutton.

I believe he is every bit as vile and nasty as he appears. I don't think he's particularly intelligent but I also don't think for one minute he has altruistic intentions. He's punching down because he thinks that's where the votes are, not as a result of stupidity but because he thinks that slapping the battlers around a bit helps him win the entitled mob. And by extension that makes him a scumbag.

Maybe I should have expressed that differently.

I agree that he's a pretty malicious character, but stupidity appears to drive his decision-making even more than malice does.

The anti-gay marriage song proposal kinda sums the man up.

He is a product of the modern Liberal party. Big on slogans and very small on new ideas.

The only actual policy I can think of from the Liberals is the NEG. And they sacked Turnbull because of it.

Howard had a near limitless store of rat cunning, Turnbull was educated and ambitious, Abbott like Trump or BoJo was fixed in the nations id, or at least the boomer segments, and Morrison was an unabashed opportunist and likely sociopath.

What each and all had at least temporarily, was the full weight of the national media behind them.

So even if they were low calibre people, dishonest, cheating, thieving, incompetents, they never had to do the real heavy lifting with the public.

Hence why we've seen a decline in political sense and instincts amongst the Liberal leadership.

And now that their demographic advantage is gone, someone like Turnbull looks positively statesman like compared to what remains.

Their media cheerleaders have no pull, their talent has washed out, or been sandbagged by lunatics. Dutton is just a symptom of these deeper problems.

That is a very good take re the media. They have had it so easy for so long they have forgotten what is required and completely take the electorate for granted accordingly.
