Fact: Everitt declared Cox to be the best in the league on the Footy Show after that round.

1) While Cox had the better of him on the day, it hardly qualified as a "pantsing"

2) I didn't realise that getting the points over an opponent on a single given occasion was incontravertible proof of total superiority over that opponent. Clearly Hawthorn is vastly superior to Melbourne as a side given our comfortable win over them a few weks back.

3) Footballers will say anything in the media at any given time, and a comment like this was unsurprising. Had it have been Jeff White who had bested him, he probably would have fronted the media the next day and trotted out the same line.

If Spider is the best ruckman in the comp, with that midfield you guys wouldn't be 15th on the ladder.

that is probably the worst comment I've seen. the reason our midfield is playing well is largely due to spider, think about it. No one denies both of the ruckman are A grade ruckman, west coast supporters... seriously one eyed.

Obviously every West Coast fan voted Cox, and every Hawthorn fan voted Everitt, but outside of that, anyone who voted for Everitt doesn't know enough about football. Yes, Everitt gets the ball into the hands of Crawford/Mitchell on most occaisions, but Cox also gets it into the hands of Fletcher, Kerr and Judd just as often. West Coast's clearances are testimony to that.

Last year I would've voted Everitt and perhaps White to be better than Cox at the end of the year. 2005 is a new year. Forget about how good Everitt has been (yes he's still hands down 2nd best) and actually compare him to Cox. I suppose you Vics have only seen two games though.

crawford beat Judd, baker beat Judd, but Judd is still the best thing going around..... and cox beats everitt on one occasion and cox must be better than everitt? strange world you western people live in.... should get out more.

Just because Everitt got beaten in one match doesn't make Cox the better ruckman. While both players are among the top 10 players in the league statistics show and the majority of the opinions of Bigfooty posters say that Everitt is the best ruckman in the league and remember Everitt has been ripped off 2 Australians and a Brownlow.

Not enough people outside of Perth see Cox on a consistent basis. I think there pretty even and there stats also suggest that. No matter how you look at it, both will go AA this year and both are easily the top two ruckmen in the league.

I voted for Cox because, well Im a WC fan and I had to vote for one of them but I think there pretty even.

Cox because he is just a fantastic young gun, who at 23 is as good as Everitt at the peak of his career. Cox still has improvement in him which in a way is a little scary. Most dominant ruckman in the league, though Josh Fraser will be there soon!

spider is the best ruckman of the current generation

but he was not worth the money st kilda had to pay to keep him.

he is still and awesome athlete, and consistent the best ruckman in the league, but I think the era of paying too much to one player when the needs of the team have to balanced are declining.

IF he'd stayed at St Kilda we'd have lost more players to meet his demands.

it was a good deal for st kilda for him to go, and while he is playing excellent football, it does transfer the burden of his salary to Hawthorn.

Its about time this poll was made, theres been a hell of alot of debate going around about who is the best ruckman going around this year. Ill give ya a list of averages for both players throughout this year and let you decide.

Avg - 17.5 disposals, 25.5 hitouts, 1 goal, 6.5 marks per game

Peter Everitt
Avg - 18.5 disposals, 27.5 hitouts, 0.9 goals , 6.5 marks a game

Factor in the fact that Everitt has spent somewhere around 10% (i think its like 9% its like 92 to 83% gametime) longer on the ground then Dean Cox has. Also remember that Everitt had his worst game of the year against Cox and has publicly said Cox is better then him
