I am wondering if anyone else has heard that Peter Matera looks like announcing his retirement next week as reported on www.footygoss.com ????

I think he should retire, otherwise he will go out as another champ who played on too long & people will only remember his last bad season.

Iceman, that site is the best thing that has ever happened to W.A. footy because now we know whats going on, not like before.

As per 99.99998% of things on footygoss, a load of unsubstantiated bollocks- I'll will personally munch on my hat if its true.
I saw the eagles train earlier this week, and Matera did not look at all impeded- indeed, prior to reading this, I'd already singled him out as the eagle who I thought trained most impressively. He's looking fit, skillful, and agile- if anything, far more so than last year. If he's suffering from soreness and is still managing to out train most of our side, than the rest of the team must be comatose.

This website you speak of actually has a place where you can write in your own rumors. The place has absolutely NO credibility at all, it is one of the worst websites going around. Ill join Mead in eating my hat if Matera hangs up the boots.

The news I have read has all been substantiated like the Moylan to port Adel news a month before it happened !!

I don't think Matera has quite been the same since Nathan Bower retired!

I haven't heard any news about his retirement, I expect that around September this year.

All the news I have heard about him is very positive, but I reckon he may only play every 2 out of 3 games this season, as his body will need regular rests.

IMHO, Matera shouldve retired at the end of last season. He only missed a couple of games but was at times very good for the team. Shouldve left while still doing well.

His hamstring and calf problems are a concern for this year though...

Make that 4 hats (plus a bumper sticker) if he retires. Can't understand why anyone would do a full pre-season and then retire.

Matera played almost every game last season so he wasnt exactly injury plagued. He also played very well all season long. He is easily playing well enough to go on for one more season.

There ya go...that's pretty good for a guy who is 33/34 and who had been injury plagued for the past 3 or so years with soft tissue injuries to calf's and hamstrings etc...

He is playing well and could probably play around the same amount of games for us this season.
