With our success this year (currently sitting second) and Gardiner playing so well, Fletcher, Jones and Embley's arrival etc etc we seem to have completely forgotten the great man.

I miss Peter Matera. I never missed Whoosha, McKenna, Mainwaring, Kemp etc...which gives me the indication that Matera is the greatest player to have ever slipped on the Eagles guernsey.

I just wanted to say that I miss good old Matera Magic. Sure we have played really well without him but that has perhaps overshadowed his departure from the club. I wish I could see him just one more time in the mightly Blue and Gold.

Come back Matera......I beg you!

I was thinking the same the other day. A champion who will never be replaced.

Hopefully in 10 years time we'll see Jordan Matera running around in the blue and gold.

IMO the greatest ever Eagle and close to the best player of the 90's.

If he had of played this year, I dont think he would've got much time on the field, because he was obviousbly struggling with injury and the like, and given the form of our time its hard to see him playing much, which is a shame in one way but an indication of how good our team has become.

Everytime i see...

Braun kick it over someone's head...
Cousins kick it up and under.
Judd and Fletcher floaters.
Gardiner skim it along the ground.
Banfield out on the full...
Glass, Jones, Green etc etc

I think about Matera always spotting someone up over 55 meters with a pin point pass.

I miss the great man too. drexel summed it up perfectly - nobody could read the play or pin point a perfect pass the way he did.

May the great man be enjoying new pastures in Matera's Cafe and selling many cakes and coffees.
