Yeah, would of thrashed the pies with his kicking boots on. As history show's, we know the 77 GF Champs :thumbsu:
It was over the minute Carman had his brain fart and clocked Tuck, no side could get near us with him controlling that forwardline, the most talented player I've ever seen, and he wasted it all.. I saw him years later at a Collingwood night and all he could talk about up on the stage was the players he'd hit and the fights he'd been in on the field, he just didn't get it, he was a nutter.. to this day Hafey won't talk to him for costing us the 77 flag.

What really cost you the flag (as we already know) was the North Melbourne Kangaroos.
Sorry man, I watched him that season, you couldn't have got near us with him in, that's why we finished on top of the ladder and were clearly the best team all year..

It was equivalant to taking Carey out of one of your premiership years.. it's not just their contribution (as brilliant as that was in both cases) it's the fact the entire game plan revolves around them ie: Pagan's paddock

If you've been playing to that game plan all year and it puts you on top of the ladder and then you lose the key player that the entire game plan revolves around for the last game of the year.. well lets not kid ourselves, it might be a team sport but there's a reason we love those special champions of the game.. they are the difference

Yeah I haven't stopped laughing since this either  ;)

Should of posted a pic of Peter to stay on topic at least haha. He wasn't there for either GF's.
Well actually Peter McKenna presented the 2010 Premiership cup to Nick Maxwell and Michael Malthouse on the podium Grand Final day so I hope that ties it all together nicely for you ;)

He who laughs last...

Tie's it in nicely like the 77 GF, poor Peter would of preferred to play and win won i would imagine. :)

No prize for second mate :D
Macca would be very happy to be a superstar of the game, at his age you have far more important regrets than footy :p

But I take your point about being 2nd.. 15 premierships to 4 ;)

And all your flags from a previous century.. sounds harsh that way doesn't it :D

lol your sig says it all. Hilarious.

Thread - Peter McKenna - topic 77 GF - Lost by Collingwood, with or without McKenna :thumbsu: 2 Premierships in 50 years, poor Peter not lining up in either.

Of course its 2 flags each since the AFL, and 4-2 Kangaroos in front re the modern era ie colour TV :)

I think my sig is hilarious too. ;)

And what a pity for you the competition is 113 years old and you are one of the worst performing clubs of all time.. and no doubt will end up in Ballarat or Tasmania before folding. :p

All time ladder

No prizes for 2nd indeed ;)

Good footage on Channel Seven News yesterday of McKenna chatting and laughing with Daryl Somers at The Bob Davis funeral/wake.

I believe there may be a small error with McKenna's career goals tally. It seems it should be one fewer; 1169 instead of the 1170 I have listed in the very first post. After adding up his goals for Port Melbourne in 1979, I found they equalled 51, not 52. The figure of 52 is published in the Port Melbourne history book I browsed through some years ago at Melbourne Sports Books. It is also quoted in Marc Fiddian's "Goals, Goals, Goals" and the Footy Facts annuals. But adding up the weekly tallies as they appear in The Age microfilm, they fall one short of 52.

3 vs Dandenong, 2 vs Brunswick, 4 vs Preston, 3 vs Frankston, 2 vs Caulfield, 3 vs Sandringham, 4 vs Brunswick, 6 vs Geelong West, 3 vs Coburg, 4 vs Prahran, 4 vs Frankston, 4 vs Caulfield, 4 vs Prahran (1st semi), 5 vs Geelong West (Prelim).

Heres a pic for the thread.
The great man with my awestruck 12 year old self at the "Peter McKenna Appreciation Day" Held at Vic Park in late '76 (bout November as near as I can remember). The stupid thing was that this day must've cost more than the 5K they wouldn't pay him to play that year (He wanted 25K they only wanted to pay 20). On the day I was so thrilled to meet Pete and many others (Wayne & Max were there, as was Ronnie Wearmouth and Thommo etc.) but I was still smarting from our first 'spoon' which was caused by the lousy suits who wouldn’t pay to keep Macca.
As it was the day was huge, featuring Hush, Starz, Supernaut, AC/DC, and (believe it or not) Mark Holden who arrived in a chopper dumping carnations on the bemused Collingwood fans!
The following season was incredible, winning the Minor Prem and all, but it was ruined for me when I went to see the Carlton game and saw Collingwood supporters booing the man I thought was the greatest Collingwood player ever. It broke my heart.
I only got over it when they brought Macca out to give the cup to Maxy and Mick. I was already fighting off tears but that tore it!!!

(PS: Wasn't it someone else who stuffed up Pendles name? Some old North player?) Michael & McKenna 1.jpg
