I wouldnt put Siddle in either category actually, wasnt lucky to get a gig and isnt performing above himself, always done well at first class level and earnt his chancesThat Baggy Green does some funny things to cricketers...
Some look like a million dollars playing at First Class level, yet look all at sea once they put on the Baggy Green and others are somewhat lucky to get a gig and grow an extra leg and perform what would be considered above themselves.
Siddle definitely is the latter. You can question his ability, but you can't question his heart. Rise to the occasion SID!

The thing that is a bit bizzare is that the same people who criticized Siddle leading into this match, are totally in love with Ben Hilfenhaus.
Their stats are pretty much the same.

unfortunately, Sids is a Victorian, so unless he can take 10 wickets in an innings and get 500 runs with the bat, he will never be rated in Australian cricket.
He is the only viable paceman in australian cricket who can bowl consistent spells, get given a task and do it, much in the mould of Glenn McGrath (and more recently Stuart Clark).
Hopefully his first innings performance in brissie gives selectors a kick up the arse and keep him in the side.
He has more right to a place in the side than Mitch Johnson who would struggle to hit buckingham palace from the front door, or to a lesser extent Hilfenhaus, who can be great, but can also be all over the shop
I'm glad someone pointed this out. Hilfenhaus gets fawned over by the media & on BF, with talk of how much he swings the ball, yet put him in less favourable conditions (the humidity today was not like you normally get for a Gabba Test) & his bowling is rather benign.
If he doesn't take a few wickets in the 2nd innings & Bollinger has a good one for NSW, then Hilfenhaus may end up facing the chop, because you can rest assured the selectors won't drop Johnson. It would not be a good look for one of Cricket Australia's highest paid players to be running around in the Shield while an Ashes series is being played.
He was referring to the general public not the Selectors and CA
That's because Hilfenhaus has been our best fast bowler (when he's in the team). Did you watch the the last Ashes and/or the corresponding match last year? The thing with Hilfy, he gets the good players out, that's why he wont be out of the side. The only reason his average is not where it should be, Ponting always brings his mates on to clean up the tail, ie. Johnson to get cheapies to boost his confidence.
He is not our best fast bowler, he is actually our worst fast bowler. He doesn't take enough wickets. Yes he looks good bowling and he looks quality but he doesn't take the wickets.
Your point about Ponting bringing his mates on (but not Hilfy) to clean up the tail is just rubbish.
Who is our best fast bowler then? The 2 guys that were dead certs going into this test were Johnson and Hilf and we all know how Johnson is travelling atm. And please don't say Siddle on just yesterdays efforts, it was line ball between him and Bollinger to get into the team in the first place. Don't make me laugh.Who is our best fast bowler then? Are you basing this on yesterdays efforts? AGAIN, who was the number one wicket taker in last years Ashes (from both teams) before he got injured? Doesn't take enough wickets you say? Sure he doesn't take big 5'fers, but the guys currently in the team who have, play numerous shit games in a row between these. At least Hilf is consistent, without too much luck I may add.

Interesting that Siddle averages about 25 when he opens the bowling and 38 when bowling 1st change so if Johnson goes out then his replacement should be 1st change
I don't want to make you laugh but I am basing the statement on that old thing called averages. Look at our bowlers averages and tell me who is the worst of our quicks. Please don't laugh, maybe just try to comprehend.![]()
