Peter Siddle

The WCE board has done a mock cricket draft, which will be voted on this cricket board, so I may have another agenda here ;)

I don't believe any of the opinions i've posted in this thread or a few others around.

Your side stinks, trans.

This "Hilfenhack" you speak of has a superior average and economy then Peter Siddle.

He mightn't be at his most threatening form at the moment but you look moronic when you label him as a hack whilst blowing a load over Siddle.
That may be true when you look at their careers, but when you look at form over the last 5 tests Siddle has taken 24 wickets to 16. As for economy i don't think that is really much of a guide to work off, Siddle's economy rate is comparable to Brett Lee, Craig McDermott and Jeff Thompson

Sulimen Benn had the same issue though a few years ago and he is a far better bowler than Lyon, then again he didn't really have the bowling pressure down the other end to give him a hand either.

Wouldn't say Benn is a far better bowler than Lyon. There must be a reason he hasn't played for the West Indies in around 2 years. Lyon has time to become a better bowler however I don't see him ever really locking himself in the team.

That's why I said Ben Hilfenhaus wasn't in his most threatening form. Siddle has the form but that doesn't make Hilfenhaus a hack.

All I'm saying is those calling him "Hilfenhack" are not only illogical but also have short memories.

EDIT: It seems unfair that you are using the last 5 tests as a guide which means Siddle gets to cash in on a bonanza of wickets against India whereas Hilfy doesn't get to cash in on his HIGHER amount of wickets because he played a couple of extra tests against the Windies where his average was 20.80. Both bowlers took 12 wickets in those final 2 tests.

Additionally, across the last 5 tests that you stated, Hilfy averages 26.31 to Siddle's 26.58.

If you include the two final Indian tests for Hilfy it brings his average down to 24.78.

If you're talking 2012 form then Hilfy's average comes down to 21.44 and Siddle's is 26.93.

Hilfenhaus hasn't been as bad as some people are stating, but the concerning thing is that he's only taken one top order wicket this series (Smith in the last test). Every other wicket has been a lower order batsman or getting Faf out to finish the first innings in Adelaide.

I think it was more to do with disciplinary issues than his ability to bowl.

No, Clarke probably finally realised that South Africa aren't India and actually want to win away from home and that Hilfenhuas is nothing but a predictable up & down, pop-gun bowler, that had been exposed by a quality opposition that was actually trying.

Agree that Hilf is a pop gun bowler but not about SA wanting to win away from home. They are the most dour, boring, play for a draw team there is.

Almost 2 days to make 430 runs against an attack missing its strike bowler and with the usual all rounder not playing to share the overs. All they had to contend with was the massive threat of a tiring Sids, Hilf and Lyon on an absolute batsman friendly Adelaide Oval and yet they shut down after Smith went out.

Weak. Soft. AB should be criticised for his vigil, not applauded. At least his debutant partner showed there were runs to be made while still surviving. If they had of scored at even the modest rate of 3 runs an over they could have been celebrating a remarkable win.

Was bad for cricket IMO. Clarke would have had Australia up for the chase (even if it failed) and probably every other Australian team of the past 20 years would have too.

Oh k siddle just looks a lot slower than patto, be interesting to see how the WACA pitch play been a bit more rain than usual.

I think you're right in that they've seemed a little down on pace this summer. Hoping a spicy WACA deck can bring the best and quickest out of them!

I think nine's gun has been a bit off this summer to be honest, one particular ball steyn bowled to Cowan in Brisbane looked your legit 155 k lightening bolt and it registered at about 144

thats a good point last few summers nines speed gun regularly had bowlers hovering around the mid 140 k mark with the odd 150ks. but this summer the gun seems to be around the 10 k slower with most balls around the mid to late 130 k

Or what is known as the correct speed.

Absolute star. Australia's best option.

Siddle > Steyn

Steyn's spell this morning set South Africa up quite nicely for the win.

Sid is a great bowler and Australia are missing him in this innings, but he's not better than Steyn.

I direct you to post #85 in this thread ;)

Yeah we missed him, but I'm not sure he would have papered over the problems elsewhere.
