i'll make sweet love to him if he can break steyn's jaw in the next test.

5 tests in, and he already has the crowds on his back? roebuck (love him or hate him you have to agree with this) said it's a compliment. they're aware that he's an aggressive bastard.

You could tell he was made for Test cricket from the first ball he bowled in India for Australia.
Straight into Gambhir's head

love the bat he bats, always smiling knowing hes gonna get bounced for what he dishes out

Well, I've grown to like him.

I was sure wrong about him initially, though. I suggested that he be dropped after an abject display in Perth. His MCG test was much more encouraging, if quite inconsistent, while he exploited a cracking pitch to great effect in Sydney.

He's been even better here, although he has occassionally lost his consistency over the course of a spell.

He's a surprisingly useful tailend batsman, too. He looks assured and is aggressive.

I love Siddle.

Gutsy, aggressive, runs in all day, and actually a very good bowler too! :thumbsu:

He actually looks like he can play the bouncer with regards to going under it or swaying. McGrath bounced the WI's tailenders in 95 with causes a few raised eyebrows. Perhaps in a few weeks we'll be looking back at the fact that a guy who has played a handful of first class games bounced the best bowler in world cricket and stirred everyone in the ground up. Could be a defining moment.

Good to see so many have seen the light and jumped aboard the Siddle Express. :thumbsu:

The way he worked over Steyn and exposed him for his lack of courage with bat in hand was a delight to watch, and it was made even more delightful by the fact that when it was Siddle's turn to bat, he got right behind it, smiled, and beat Steyn again.

There are going to be ups and downs given his age, lack of experience and injury issues, but as i've said all along, he's an extremely exciting prospect who is going to play a lot of quality cricket for Australia.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned this earlier in the thread.

And unlike Steyn he keeps in line with the ball and takes what comes.

Thats the key. Siddle might not be the best with the bat in terms of getting runs. But it's obvious that he has copped some bouncers over the years and is guite comfortable playing those. He either ducks or sways and didn't seem to worried at all when Steyn was bowling bouncers.

It's obvious that Ponting has instructed Siddle to really rough up Steyn and i think there was some residual effect of that first innings barrage when Steyn came out in the 2nd innings. He didn't seem to keen to get behind the ball and just had a dirty big swipe and lost his stumps.

I love it how he always attacks, and the way he will never back down. It's like he wants to be challenged and wants to be successful at everything he does, no matter what, as if nothing will stop him reaching for his goal. Plus he's not even at peak fitness. :D. Watch out Pommies The S-Train is coming for ya!

And I loved his attitude with it, basically saying its Test Cricket people get bounced toughen up and deal with it. :thumbsu:

massive fan. have been from the moment i saw him first play for victoria in shield cricket last season.

he's a real fast bowlers' fast bowler if you get what i mean. as a quickie myself i just love the sight of a guy steaming in, giving it everything, just toiling away on a placid deck (not that the wanderer's deck could be described as placid) without much help, hitting the deck as hard as he can and just busting his gut to get the breakthrough for his team. that described siddle perfectly.

if he can just work on getting the ball to move a bit in the air and his consistency then he will be one of the best bowlers in the world IMO. He already gets a good bit of movement off the deck. At 24, there is so much upside for him it's not funny.

I honestly see no reason why he can't take 250, 300 test wickets or more at an average under 25/26. Obviously things can fall apart and he is a bit injury prone unfortunately... But it's just a matter of him working on what he developed so far and improving.

This may also come as a suprise but i found out over the weekend that during their testing Siddle is aerobically the fittest guy in the Australian squad. Thought that honour would've gone to Johnson.

Actually he was a very good footballer as a youngster, so maybe he got it from that.

Interestingly I played against Pete in junior cricket, and to this day i still remember him bowling a bouncer to me at u12's. Remember it clear as day going straight for my helmet and it was quicker than all his other deliveries. He had a reputation for being an aggressive quick back then (we were all shitting ourselves when facing him), so no surprise to me that's the way he is playing his cricket now.

Great to see a guy from our area do well for himself.

Loved how he just shurrged his shoulders and said oh well I'am gunna get bounced isnt that what test cricket is all about, then with the crowd geting stuck into him again he just said oh well dosent that happen every where in the world. Unlike some players in the past who have a big cry to the media and ICC when the crowd gets stuck into them.

(apologise if I've missed a similar topic)

He has been fast-tracked and packs aggression (which is always great to see in an Aussie quick), isn't short on heart either.

For mine the most impressive thing so far on the world stage has been his ability to find that second wind when you think he's done for the day. The wicket celebrations are gold too. But yeah for the people who know a bit more about him, what sort of improvement ceiling are we looking at here?

We are playing him a bit in the mould Johnson was. In other words at the moment he probably is not ready, although he is contributing. Down the track I have no doubt he was fill a large cog in our attack.

Somebody who knows for sure will either confirm/deny, but I'm pretty sure he hasn't actually played a hell of a lot of First Class Cricket - like, less then 30 matches, including Tests?

As for improvement; Warnie reckons he'll be the best bowler in the world in a couple of years - that's good enough for me.

Aside from that - love him too; heart as big as Phar Lap, aggression, passion, keeps going and going - he's a champion. He's the Katich of our bowling line up. Said it before, will say it again, the way he went after Steyn, and the way he stood up to Steyn's return barrage, was awesome, it made him, and it really set the stage for the Series.

Only complaint so far - first innings, he hit Bopara in the throat, which was great; but the chin music should've continued. Should've been bouncer after bouncer after bouncer - hit them, hurt them, keep going at them.

He's only 24 years old as well and most bowlers don't hit their peak until around 29-30.

I love his aggression and the fact that he can swing it and cut it to varying degrees of severity (hence all of his 'bowled' wickets).

Oh - he's also Victorian. :thumbsu:

He seemed to bowl within himself, his pace was down on past games. Once he gets loose he seems to bowl 145kms +, in the first innings was well below that. I also think he got his lengths wrong, was either too short or not full enough. On a slow pitch like this those lengths are just asking to be hit hence the amount of boundries hit off him.

I expect Sidds to be back to his aggressive best in the second innings hopefully with his pace up. He'll be a hand full at lords with a little more bounce.

He averages 28 runs per wicket. How can you say he is not ready? How many bowlers in world cricket average less than that? Disagree entirely with the MJ comparison, took him a while to justify his place. Siddle is in the team on merit.

Barring injury will take 300 wickets for Australia at least.

With an average of under 30.
