Peter Siddle

i like him but it's pretty clear the only thing keeping him in the side is hilfy's injury, and maybe the fact that the next in line bowler mckay didnt take many wickets when given the chance.
Did McKay bowl any worse, or with any less luck in Perth than Siddle has in the last 2 tests? I honestly believe that now would be the perfect time to give the kid another go? It's time to see if McKay is up to this level and if he will be a part of us regaining the Ashes next summer.

McKay looked, dare i say it, too slow at this stage. Action looked very slow motion, really needs to pull himself through a bit better and he can probably get more out of his action.

Could be a decent player but a long, long way off at this point.

I said the same thing on the other thread. Siddle is under performing and is not doing a hell of a lot at the moment.

Yes, he "won" us the game with his batting in Sydney, but I don't see him in the side as a specialist batsmen batting at number 9.

He has been unlucky at times I will admit, but bowlers make there own luck, hell I took 9 in the first round of cricket this summer, felt like I was playing the blind but took 9 none the less.

My point is, Siddle needs to make his own luck, I genuinely thought after he got out that he would be fired up and he would come out and take a 5 fa. Nothing.
If you actually look at Siddle closely enough, he is a right handed version of Mitchell Johnson. Swings a new ball, hits the deck hard, is very hit and miss and relies predominantly movement off the pitch to remove batsmen.

Send him back to Victoria, tell him to take some wickets and he may get a look in again.

Truth be told, he would not be playing in Hobart had Hilfenhause been fit.

Apart from Siddle's struggle to hit a good length consistently I actually thinks he either does too much or too little with the ball.

I watched him pretty closely last test and with the new ball he was superb, except the ball was seaming around too much to find the edge. Exception was the North dropped catch but that was a genuine half volley. When the ball lost its seam he didn't look threatening at all.

Same thing happened in England too, particularly with the new aggot.

Contrast that with both Bollinger and Johnson and they don't do as much with the new ball, but they still do enough to find the edge. They also do more with the old ball than Siddle, which is a worry for him.

Huge fan of Siddle but there is no doubt that he will most likely make way for Hilf when he recovers. He'll play in the ODI series, but highly unlikely he'll be in the XI for the NZ series (assuming Hilf has recovered by then).

McKay was bowling about 140s during the T20 and ODI series. So don't know if it was due to his debut that he was slightly slower or he needs more fitness to maintain that pace.

Just as Marcus North needs some time at domestic level, so to does Peter Siddle.

Just incapable of taking a wicket with the new ball, he cant and wont do it this spell. What's he there for if he cant take a wicket with the new rock?

Cant maintain a consistent length, as mentioned by various commentators it's a real problem.

Siddle gets more bowel movements then ball movements:p.

The only Australian wicket taker for the innings so far says hi ;)

Is this the same Australian wicket taker who has almost DOUBLED his series wickets in 1 over? The same Australian wicket take who is averaging less then 1 wicket per innings all summer?

Yeah... tell him "Hi"... then ask him where he's been all summer.

Siddle's been bowling well, he just hasn't been getting wickets.

He got a wicket in the last test match with a rubbish ball, yet was bowling beautifully all morning for no reward.

2/20 so far, and two runouts.

What I find totally jaw dropping is our selection policies.

We played Siddle in all these meaningless ODI matches - and he is not a good ODI bowler anyway he is a Test bowler - and he comes back to Australia a shadow of the bowler we sent overseas. Injured so no time to get some form playing 4 day cricket either.

Now our Test series has almost finished I was thinking it would be a great opportunity for Siddle to go back and play 4 day cricket, he has not played a lot of FC cricket and it shows in his Test bowling. And I look at the 12 man ODI squad and Peter Siddle is in it. :thumbsd:

He has slipped behind the Rug now and would be dropped if Hilf was fit. How is he going to improve his Test match bowling by playing ODI cricket?

Can someone please explain this to me? I do not see any logic in it whatsoever.....
