Stupid comment. Hilf has a ton of talent and has been our best bowler on a number of occasions. He had a somewhat off day yesterday but judging him based on 1 innings is silly. When not taking wickets, he puts batsmen under more pressure then the other bowlers the majority of the time.

Far too many folk around here are over-reactionary.

Hilfenhaus is the most talented bowler in our side, and his rise to the top has been hampered by persistent injury. He was off the boil yesterday but if anyone should get an extended run in our side it's the Hilf. He is the one bloke, for all the bluster about Johnson, who could become a legitimate destroyer with a bit of continuity and fitness behind him.

Agreed 100%.
If it weren't for injuries, I'm certain Hilf would have been a permanent part of our side a while before now.

BF cricket board, once again shown to be completly clueless on the subject of cricket.

Yep, and the most clueless (by a distance) are the ones who jump all over one performance. And use it to try and validate everything they think about a player, and to stupidly cite it as conclusive proof that everyone else is wrong.

Which is probably why you'll find it's no coincidence that the Siddle lovers seem to have disappeared again after his abysmal performance today.

If people bothered to genuinely read and consider some of the criticisms that have been levelled against Siddle on this thread and others, one of the big issues people have with him is his lack of any consistency. And his inability to sustain good bowling from one innings to the next. (Heck, even from one spell to the next for that matter.)

This match, despite all the fawning over him on Thursday, is bearing that problem out again.

To be fair to Siddle our entire bowling line-up is shit right now. Maybe Dougie can add something and I really think Copeland and SOK will be great additions over the next year or two.

I was thrilled with Siddle's performance on the first day but sadly it's days like today that he seems to have more often than not.

This.
Kinda funny too, considering Coughlan didn't want Haddin in the team, but then went on to hang shit on those who didn't want Siddle in the team and criticized them based on one innings. By his logic, he must be 'clueless' about cricket as well.

I preferred Paine over Hadden, simple as that.
If you can point out where I was massively critical of Haddin, go for it.
Good luck with that though.

You cant expect the same bowler to tear through the lineup every innings, yet everyone jumps and down when people criticise Hilfenhaus who has been useless all match and want to bag Siddle when half an innings after taking 6 wickets he is wicketless...

Gotta love this place

The fact of the matter is, if you need a wicket at a crucial time, Siddle is your go-to man in this team. He did it against South Africa both home and away and Thursday was the second time he's done it against the Poms (also now home and away). He is the filling Johnson's role - a strike bowler who picks up wickets when you need them the most. Those who criticise him are as clueless as anything. Today was a bad day for them all, blaming Siddle is just ridiculous. He has been far and away our best bowler for the test. He would be the first bowler picked after his first innings.

Now we need to drop Johnson for Bollinger (and probably lose Doherty too) and our attack looks a lot more menacing.

Siddle's the batting version of North. A great burst once or twice a series then crap in-between.

Think he'd be very handy though with better bowlers around him. Bollinger and Harris for a bit of pressure, Siddle in to be aggressive, attack hard and be the enforcer. Just can't play him with Johnson.

despite the hat-trick siddle is still a fairly poor bowler

the same way gillespie was not a great batsman despite making a double century

Siddle is poo. The majority of Australia's bowling attack is poo.

However their poo is irrelevant in comparison to Mitchell Johnson who has evolved from promising all rounder into Magikarp.

Mitchell Johnson uses extreme wide delivery - it's ineffective - 4 runs to England

Siddle was described as "Right Arm Poo" on an SEN text sent in today. Had to chuckle. Obviously a poster from here. Which one of you was it? Come on, own up............lol!!!!

Siddle tears through line-ups regularly? Pardon?

I'm guessing you're not being serious - but, if you are, then (a) I suggest you need to look over his career in a more detailed way and (b) you're another who is not listening to what other posters have said.

Sorry, but what has this thread got to do with Hilfenhaus or anyone else except Siddle?

That Hilfenhaus isn't bowling at his best at the moment somehow means we all must change our view on Siddle because he is doing better comparatively?

Hilfy is complete rubbish atm and Siddle is near-complete rubbish, so no-one should have a go at Siddle. Is that the gist of your argument?

WTF? Is there some unwritten rule here that people have to make up falsehoods about Siddle's career?

This is the whole problem, mate. He can *not* take wickets at the most crucial times. He has been involved in a heap of Tests now where he has been totally unable to finish other teams off. Taking 20 wickets has become a huge issue for Australia over the last couple of years - and Siddle has been a contributing factor, no doubt. This Test goes down on a growing list of games where he has done nothing when it has really mattered in the third or fourth innings.

1/517 is an embarrassment to every bowler in that innings. Atrocious.

He did it against South Africa both home and away and Thursday was the second time he's done it against the Poms (also now home and away).

It's the second time he's done it against England? In what? 12 innings? And the first time, he got rid of 4 tailenders on a poor pitch from memory? Well done on completely trashing eddiesmith's point, btw. :thumbsu:

He is the filling Johnson's role - a strike bowler who picks up wickets when you need them the most. Those who criticise him are as clueless as anything.

Gulp. Just unbelievable.

Siddle is a rank medium pacer who can't move the ball in the air or off the pitch, is useless with the bat and is a terrible fieldsman. Aside from that I like the kid.

Very very smart thinking by the English coaching staff. To let Siddle get 6 wickets in the first innings means they can now feast off him for the rest of the series. A little pain to start with, but plenty of gain from now on in.
Of course having seen the potential replacements this test I doubt they would care who Australia puts up

Harris and Bollinger were supposed to be Australias saviours :D

It was probably this guy's worst seven overs of the series today. And that's really saying something.

He bowled pure and utter pies that made Haddin do far more work (and consistently, at that) than the batsmen.

Watching someone whose main plan for getting wickets on a grassy pitch was apparently to try and have players caught at long leg was just embarrassing.

We could have dismissed them for well under 187 if Ponting hadn't wasted 40 minutes after lunch with this plodder. :thumbsd:

Look this is not going to be popular but I think Siddle has plenty of talent and is currently being not very well captained and coached.

He has shown that he can move it both ways at pace and at times gets good bounce. I think that there is plenty to work with, but giving him ridiculous plans to bowl short shit constantly is devaluing what he can actually do with the ball.

I'm sure this post will be ridiculed, but I'll stick with my opinion. Kids got talent - just needs nurturing.
