Will play in Canberra this week says Roosy, but will return to the seniors against the Bulldogs next week.

So

Kennelly in for Brennan (certainty if Kennelly's fit)

And Grundy in for Davis?? Or if Reg isn't fit, maybe even White will get a run. I think Roos might be worried about the height of the Roos and either White or Grundy can play at either end. And comments earlier this week suggest Davis is a good chance to get the chop again.

And White was emergency last week which is a sign that Roos must think he is close. I would be quite excited to see him debut.

A team with White, Smith, Bird, Jack, Barlow and Moore would be quite something for the slow, ageing, conservative Swans.

But then again, we don't have any decent youngsters...

Very true. And hopefully Veszpremi debuts by years end. Still you're right. "We have no kids".

Dunno who the first bloke is. The second guy looks tall enough, but doesn't get first hands to the ball very often...

The other Crouchy - Go LFC!!! :thumbsu::)
I wonder if he'd be any good as a ruckman .....

does anyone think we played by hawks in a reasonably strong draft?
we traded pick 33 (jarryd morton) for everitt who will play 3 years max. it seems like a bit to give up for him.

anyone know y sydney recruiters are keen on trading valuable draft picks older players?
fair enough if they are around 23 and have at least 5 good years left and about 2 or 3 serviceble. but 3 or so ok years doesnt seem the wise move with an aging list

Having 2 strong ruckmen is so much more important to the Swans than most other clubs as the Swans gameplan involves alot of stoppages.

yeah but much rather of seen they recruit someone who had a few extra years in them. he will be good this years and could help us to a premiership, but if we fall down we will be at square one with developed ruckmen

Absolutely spot on. We got done in the ruck against St Kilda through Spida's absence and Jolly's greater workload but we were fortunate that our midfield had an absolute blinder of a match reading the opposition ruckmen. Interesting to see where we go to if Spida doesn't play on next year...

If we had have gone 1 point better in '07 than we did in '06 people would have been saying that Spida was a brilliant recruit.

tintin, let's say we had drafted Morton. Do you think he or Spida would be the greater contributor to our side at the moment?

Cast your mind back to that trade period. The Hawks were pushing hard for a first rounder and it wasn't until late into the week that the trade was concluded. I think the price was fair, and I think the Swans were under no illusion that Everitt would be missing games due to his age and injury history. They were prepared to take that risk.

The huge advantage of bringing Spida to the club was to help mould our young ruck division. He works with both Curry and Orreal at training. His expertise will prove invaluable.

Not any of my business, but Jarryd Morton is playing for the Hawks... 24 disposals and 7 marks against the Crows and is averaging just under 20 for the season.

I'm intrigued and sorry for my ignorance but who else is lined up in the rucks for the Swans? Jolly has developed very nicely but is there anyone else?

We've gone through a few ruckmen in recent years: Paul Chambers, Earl Shaw, Andrew Ericksen.

Daniel Currie is progressing nicely in the reserves and is not far off IMHO. And then we have the rookie-listed Jake Orreal, who is as green as they come, having only played 3 games of football before he was drafted. Tall (205cm) and athletic, he's one for the future.

In the meantime, we have the likes of LRT, Playfair and Richards to pinch-hit in the ruck if needed.

Thanks for the info. So at the moment, Everitt and Jolly are the only dedicated ruckmen on the pitch at the moment? Has there been much discussion over bringing in Currie and leaving the guys like LRT/Richards to continue to play down back?

We have 2 young Ruckmen (Daniel Currie and Jake Orreal) and from what ive heard they are both quite talented but im not sure they are ready for the AFL because as you know it takes longer for ruckmen to develop and Currie is only 19 years and 4 months old while Orreal is even younger at 18 years and 4 months.

In all honesty im hoping Spida will play on for 1 more season as both our young ruckmen need that extra year to develop.

thats where our problem is. terrible recruiting and not just the ruck department. you also have to mention doyle and micklejohn. they would both be around 26 27 right now i think and they should be the ones in there with jolly doin the ruckwork so we would have our draft picks developing instead of trading off every pick we have for established players
but from the looks for it we have stepped up our game and recruited a few good players (not like you could of stuffed up last years draft). cant wait to see vez, liked him since i saw him in 06 state championships

That's a bit harsh don't you think? You have to remember that, at a time, when maybe a young ruckman might have been recruited (who'd be at the top of his game now), Goodes was expected to continue and finish his career in the ruck - don't forget how sensational he was there. There was also continued hope for Doyle and we had Jason Ball playing the best footy of his career. Then Jolly came along and had an immediate impact. Recruiting a young ruckman was never a priority for a team traditionally without tall KPPs and having a slow midfield.

For all that, our ruck stocks, both current and potential, still seem to be a whole lot healthier than most other clubs.

he isnt even 200cm having said that hes no josh frasier.
lookin at recruiting im just goin by whats not on our list at the moment. most of our top picks are gone, but saying that our lower picks are good.
i was goin through our draft picks and i noticed sydneys whole team is built on luck. lucky okeefe, moore and a whole other heaps who i cant remember have become good players. besides mcveigh we have no high draft picks in our team and he isnt even up to the standard of a 10 ten nowadays
