It's not so much about their performance on field as their leadership qualities. You know Atley's nickname, yeah? Humphrey because he hardly says boo. Meanwhile Cunnington is a quiet, man of few words country bloke as far as I can tell. Ziebell is probably most likely to become a "give a bake when it's needed" type leader, but he's been battling injury and form issues.

On a more positive note, Spitta seemed more animated and vocal on Saturday than usual, so perhaps he's growing into his leadership role.
He identified that a few weeks ago that he was working with Lingy about being more vocal while injured. Leadership, Thompson has in spades via vocal and Firrito and Hansen provide the non-verbal leadership in the backline. This is where we're lacking Mcmillian atm, real strong voice in the midfield. Forward line, lets not go there shall we.

The mood on BF, as people have noted, is the most uniformly pessimistic/apathetic it has been since Brad became coach.
Personally, I'm not feeling particularly pessimistic or apathetic (although, 1/2 time against Brisbane was a different story ;)). I'd like to think I'm a realist when I admit that we have a lot of players down on form, and a lot who haven't been putting in enough effort, but I also admit that we have possibly the worst injury list right now, and have done for most of the season, with little respite in sight.

Like I've said before, It's a shit situation, but it's also a new one. We've overcome not being talented enough in the past. We've overcome not being fit enough in the past. Now we have a new challenge, and unless you're the team that won the flag last year, guess what, every other clubs have their challenges as well.

FFS we were being compared to Melbourne and Richmond several years ago, with our paths being closely watched. With no priority picks, no handouts and no helping hands we've gone past them, both generally, and specifically right now!Even though our list looks to be at it's worst in terms of effort/injuries in recent years, our new gameplan has enabled us to be not just in the 8, but to have beaten multiple top quality hoodoo sides.

Yes the team has ****** up, yes the coaches have probably ****** up. That doesn't mean they can't fix the issues and certainly doesn't mean they wont. People are welcome to be all doom and gloom, because right now shit aint quite right. But I think a bit of perspective is important.
