Thanks, this thread has been a bit quiet lately but, was a real roller coaster of emotions for a while there as posters relayed stories that encompassed the whole range of pet ownership. From the newest puppy/kitten moments to the inevitable passing of much loved members of the family and all the fun times and challenges in between. What great pats of our lives they are.

This morning I have booked Archie in to the vet tomorrow morning, he has the same ear infection that he seems to get this time almost every year, but I have to talk to the vet about his eyes too, I fear the old fella is going blind, he struggles to find a ball again if he loses close sight of it and his pupils are nearly always dilated even in bright sunshine.
How old is Archie, Baz?Sounds a good age?

The cat shitted on the carpet a few times recently. She pissed as well. Hard to get the smell of cat piss out.

oh sorry Was replying on speed dial :). The Vizsula . He is about 2 year old. And that lovely goldy colour Are they all that colour ?
Yes, they are all that solid rust colour. If you see any other colour, then it's mixed with another breed.
The only exception to that will be the old Vizslas who tend to have some white on their nose/jaw and sometimes around the top of the head.

Not too old. About 56 or 60 human years . :) Not old at all :)
Have left him with the vet this morning, they want to sedate him so they can get a better look at his eyes (after two vets looking in to his eyes for some time, he was getting a bit uncooperative), not sounding great though, even if they can decide what the problem is, it most likely can't be cured.

I am sorry Baz:( I was a bit too lighthearted in the above post I will delete it . I do know what it is like to lose a dog . :( And we all do eventually. But it didn't get any easier with each one

No, don't delete, it was fine. Hopefully we aren't going to lose him just yet, looks like he is going blind though, which we were ready for.

Bloods have been taken, to make sure it's nothing else, but at this stage Archie looks to have Progressive Retinal Atrophy, an inherited, degenerative, eye disease which is sometimes found in Labradors and other breeds. He will slowly go blind. There will be no real lessening of his quality of life, we have been advised to not move things around in his environment and to walk him on a lead only (which we do already, except at the beach).

I have never eaten Labrador bread. Have eaten other breads though,:p

In all seriousness though, you should still have Archie for a long time :)

Aw. Got any other pets mate?
Getting another cavalier from the same breeder so the other one has a companion to play with when no one is home.

The mrs had a dog (maltese) that I lived with for 6 years. Unfortunately it passed away a couple of years ago. It was virtually blind towards the end and had a number of other issues but it battled to the end. It was with the mrs for 18 years so she was devastated once it went. As mentioned by others in this thread, they really do become family members and it rips you to shreds when they go. Nothing angers me more than dog cruelty.

Ah, partners in crime...always nice for dogs to have a companion dog.

I know I will be a mess when Archie eventually goes, he is more "my dog" than our others, though they are all loved members of our family.

ShinbonerBaz I should mention your avatar in the Avatar thread . It's a beauty. The little fella typing just goes on and on and on and on......... :)
Ha, he types much more than me..and my glasses are a little smaller. Might go back to Inspector Clouseau soon.

Glad he's doing well Baz. Seems like a tough one, agree with everything you've said in regards to dogs bringing so much

Thor? or the little mate?

Yeah that's Thor. 6 weeks old. Visited the breeder on Sunday. He's the runt of the little so it was funny seeing him wrestle with the other puppies. Got this from the breeder the other day:

"All babies are hale and hearty as you can see. A couple of the boys are missing a testicle or two, but that's quite common at 6 weeks of age and nothing to worry about. The lillest boy with the biggest name (Thor) is showing off and has both testicles already, so he was obviously focusing his energies in areas other than endeavouring to be the biggest and fattest :)"

Thor's a little shinboner so it's no surprise that he's got the biggest pair haha
