his weakest area is that is slow, not that he is unfit. Completely bereft of any explosive speed off the mark with a turning circle akin to the queen mary.

LOL...yep, good point Cogga...it is that first few steps.
He's like a tall that can't play genuinely tall - though he can take a grab.
Having been familiarised with the Brown saga - how he simply couldn't run to save himself during his first few years at the Dogs - I had hoped that with the right coaching, players like Pettifer may be able to do better than get increasingly further behind chasing others...while grimacing and shaking their head back and forth while chasing to let the crowd and coaching box know for certain they are really trying hard.
Foley has significantly improved his pace...maybe the coaching technique is there...it's just only getting through to a small handfull.

This is a real problem he needs to work on I reckon. He should be putting his head over the ball and winning it himself instead of trying to bump opponents out of the way, especially when he usually bounces off. Otherwise I think he is judged a bit harshly by some on here. 31 goals from a flanker two years in a row is a pretty good return and he also takes it into the 50 quite a bit. But he does seem to need a boot up the bum every now and then to make sure he keeps working hard enough on the field. You guys are so hard on Pettifer. Yes i'll agree he is a bit soft when the ball is on the ground. But from watching him its more because he goes to bump the men instead of going the ball. Which means he doesnt lay a tackle or get the ball and looks stupid.
