Pev Retires

It's funny because 2-3 months ago everyone would've been happy if Pev had retired. Now we all don't want him to. :p

A somewhat disconcerting thread title for a Freo supporter when rapidly scrolling down BF - it looks very similar to Pav Retires

Anyway, while I'm here, well done to Pev. I remember when he first started out and was elevated from the rookie list (for Hird IIRC) and he was pretty good.

Could imagine your shock. Thanks for the good comments but I think Pev was elevated off the rookie list for Smoking Joe Misiti when he was out for about 10 weeks in 2001.

Deserves great credit for getting the most out of himself.

Was a good player for the club over a long period of time.

On ya Pev.

Exactly. What a fickle bunch some of our supporters are.

Reported on Channel 10 news? Has there actually been any official confirmation from anyone at the Club or the print media yet? Not that I can see.

Channel 10 didn't come out and make a statement "Peverill retires" it was added into a story about JJ's last games. They also mentioned Rama considering his future.

Knighter said this months ago and has also recently alluded to it.

It shouldn't come as a surprise.

He's been a terrific player for us and was one of the gutsiest players i have seen in recent times and put his body on the line time and time again.

Thanks Pev, you are what footballs clubs are about.

Hope that helps

Peverill was sensational in 2001. Was elevated for 9 weeks for Misiti and I can still remember him being cheered off the ground by the team and crowd in his last game before Misiti came back.

I was quite critical of him until this year, mainly about his disposal. I think in the 2nd half of the season he was fantastic and that his form warranted another contract. Unfortunately sounds like this wont be the case. If it wasnt for this Gold Coast business he might have been playing on. What a shame.

Pev wasnt pleased with good looks:p or sensational skills but what he did was give 100% percent when he ran out for Essendon and for that I say thanks Pev :thumbsu:

Ahhh dammit.

Been one of my favourite players for a long time.

Has been one of the gutsiest players I've ever seen.

Congrats on a great career Pev- You're an absolute credit to the Essendon Football Club.

I'm pretty sure this hasnt been confirmed
But Knights has said he will only renew Peverills contract if he plays well
his got 2 weeks to prove that.

And he has stated he wanted to play on

That's a surprise, he was never the same after breaking his arm in that anzac day game, before that he was a formidable tagger who got heaps of the ball, he has pace and strength and is tough and that's one player i didn't expect to leave as essendon could always use some extra grunt to complement their pacey midfield.

Knighter didn't say that.

" He's contributing really well and he's a strong part of our team at the moment - all credit to to him."

But Knights said Peverill still had not done enough to guarantee himself another contract.

"We haven't had those discussions. That's something for the end of the year," Knights said.

Just another slice of the meat market that AFL is today, sad to see him go , does anyone remember how he got his break/start in AFL?

so there 5 pages of posts about pev retiring & its yet to be confirmed by the club?!

i highly suspect he wont go on, regardless of his wishes, but the reason for this thread is??

It's highly unlikely he'll go on next year, regardless if this is confirmed or not. The thread is about Pev and his career, why wouldn't you want to throw your two bobs worth in?

it is a shame if this turns out to be true.. i think the return of pev into our midfield was one of the reasons for the dramatic change in fortunes for the 2nd half of the season.. young kids still need some tougher bodies to protect them and show them the way in the middle. pev was never pretty but always put his body on the line for the EFC.

hope knights takes another look at the tapes before scrapping a true warrior of our fine club..

Congrats on a great career. A player who gave his all and got everything possible out of himself. The game just seemed to have left him in later years. Another 1 club player.

I really hope he doesn't retire. He's been one of our best players this year imo.

As someone else said, a lot of the younger guys could learn a lot from him, and the way he goes about things.

I hope he plays for another year. :thumbsu:
