still waiting on the "acceptance" stage of grief to hit. Not there yet
Lions were injury hit, we played them at home after a week off. We just weren’t good enough. That’s easiest way to stomach it to me kes. We’ve just got to find more contributors than just nick and Elliot who’ve carried us most of the season

I reached the "acceptance" phase quicker than I expected. Ultimately, we weren't good enough this year and didn't time our run as well we did in contrast to 2022 and 2023.

Compared to 2019 and 2022 when we lost by under a goal, this was a clearer loss so it's easier to stomach.

In saying all of this, it's a missed opportunity for the club. There's no sugarcoating that.

Someone wins, but then they later get done for salary cap cheating, their premiership is stripped and there is then no winner listed for 2025?
I Hope Please GIF

So long as we stay ahead of the real enemies, the blose and the bombouts they're our closest enemies for overall team performance metrics over the course of the competition.

Still can't stomach clubs with recent flags about to get another, unless it was us.
We should be playing off in the grand final mate.
Ten points clear after round 17.
We choked.

Our aging list is not good enough. To rely on a medium small to kick our goals is unsustainable…. We missed Bobby of course but all our tall forwards were just paddling along at the end .

It didn’t help that we had a multitude of medium to long term injuries in our VFL list that prevented some player development…(Macrae Johnson Harrison Mitchell McInnes Smit West Ryan Sullivan jiath). Fly isn’t that kind of coach anyway and likely would not have picked them. Even West was at least a month overdue for a debut and then he got injured anyway

The tall forwards gradually got worse as the year progressed as the midfield delivery became slower and more indecisive.

The list needs a mini rebuild. Hopefully a lot of that can come from within but as many of them were injured most of the year we are none the wiser.

Yeah, that’s a fair summary. Frustrating year.

We have to ask the question why?

Totally agree.

The other disappointing part is that the ten points clear was on the back of older players. In an ideal world the younger players do more heavy lifting in the home and away rounds.

I think we were good enough to win the premiership for most of the season. But the wheels started coming off about round 19.Bobby Hill was a huge loss for us,as was Howe.It seemed that our drop off in form coincided with the loss of these two players..Also our older players’ form dropped off,Sidebottom,Crisp, etc. Our key forwards like Mcstay and Mihocek fell off a cliff as well, which seriously hampered our scoring ability.

It was a lot of little things that brought us undone in the end,not one or two things. But yes,I think we were good enough to win the premiership. The team being so old just ran out of gas in the end.But I’m sure most people here thought we had a good chance of winning the premiership before our late season slump.

We got injuries to key players at bad times .. doesn t help
So did the Lions, Paine, Big O, Neale, Lohmann for a few weeks, they managed to play fringe players with a LOT of ability.
Just illustrates their depth. Think there is a bit more to Hill saga that didn't help either.

I’m still in the sooky, bitter stage if that’s a thing
Me too. Fume every time I hear another ex-player defend that non decision. I was on the Lion's board and asked about that decision. They LOL'd and said they've never seen such a carry on about a free kick-they won and it's over. I said I must admit- Lion's fans have never whined about a non-free kick in a final....oh wait!

^Good summary. Our injuries among our young VFL players decimated our player development program. I am hoping that next year we will have much more fortune in this respect. I am also hoping that Fly will be very open to giving young players a chance at senior level.
This I feel will be essential for us to progress next year.

Premierships are not won earlier in the year, but think back to when we smashed the Hawks. It looked like we had a hand on the flag. That was a statement win against traditionally a bogey team. We also had an impressive win against the Lions at the Gabba. I don’t recall the Hawks and Lions were in great form at the time, but we were clinical in both.

Who would have then thought that later in the year, we would lose to the Hawks (our worst loss of the year), and the Lions (twice including a preliminary).

'Congrats Brisbane on you 3rd Grand Final appearance in a row, Here's 2 more top line players for you to draft in just a few months time.'

- DILLdo head.

These campaigners will probably make the next 6 Grand Finals,

We got injured because our list is older. They are tough and can play injured (Checkers above all) but they tend to stay injured longer IMHO.

Massive plus is our fitness boys had them ticking over beautifully in May, luck ran out though. Jordy's fitness run was well timed, but all three of MMM hobbling by the end, and even the reliable Pendles went down.

Fly has tried an even more radical version of Geelong 2020-2022, for one flag, 2 top 4s and one write off. It has been a success.

He's a very good coach, be interesting to see how we keep the list in fighting trim. Hopefully bag some decent FAs, McGuane comes in and some of the twos rise to the occasion. I have big hopes for Harvey Harrison, Allan and HDM.
