just read in the paper today about the 2003 draft and how the richmond fans keep banging on about screwing us with the ottens trade. i actually thought we did better out of it. check it out

tigers got
deledio
tambling
meyer
pattaision
polo

deledio, tambling, polo definate best 22
meyer, borderline
pattison, definate not

we got
ottens
egan
prismal
nablett

all 4 are part of our best 22 imo

Not that I like having this whole Ottens/Richmond argument all over, but seriously, about 6 of those players you mentioned are completely irrelevant to it all.

not trying to start an argument champ. just merely stating in that draft which the ottens trade was just a part of it, we actually did quite well overall compair to the tigers.

thats all.

Not sure Prismall is in our best 22 yet, if he was he'd be playing...
As for the youngsters Richmond drafted with our picks, they're still young but all have shown something. Remember we gave up Moloney as well...

I beg to differ. I think Brent is in our best 22 for sure. He is class.

He is. His demotion was for the purposes of the whole team i.e start playing footy or this will happen to you, problem being it should have happened to 4 or 5 others before it happened to him.

On comparisons with Ottens you would have to say they are about even in what they have acheived at their prospective clubs - squat.

Both have been injured, both have played some good games and bad. Moloney was never going to get us to the next level............unfortunately Ottens hasn't got us their either :(. Yet. Still think he needs to lose about 10kg to get back to that "mobile" ruckman/forward and STOP GOING TO BLOODY GROUND!!!!!

Exactly 6. If we'd used picks 12 and 16, player limitations mean we'd never have picked up Egan. So effectively Otto and Ego for Moloney and pick 16.

I wouldn't agree with the OP that we are better off than the Tiggies, but I would say the decision benefits both Geelong's immediate needs and Ritchmond's 2011+ plans.

And, Modest, it was the 2004 draft.

I said I wasn't sure if he's in the best 22. I think he's borderline.
I personally think he's a gun and whilst he does look to have a great future, he's still young and i'm not sure if he's ahead of Bartel, Chapman, Corey, Ablett, Enright or Ling just yet... He might need to add some more strings to his bow to keep his spot, he did kick a few goals earlier on which was good...

And you'd know how?
Even if they haven't it's still to early to decide if any of them are a bust...

prehaps my title was a bit misleading, i wasnt having a full on go at the tigers but merely pointing out up to this day, we seemed to be doing better as we have what i believe 4 players definate in our best 22 as compair to them 3 and couple borderlines.

and to think that draft was suppose to be one of their major rebuilding block as well....

No he is not borderline - travesty of justice that he was dropped at all. Oh and I highlighted a few mistakes with your pecking order (half highlighted Joel - better kick, not better at clearances yet). He is definately above Enright and about the same level as Ling - but with more upside.

And you'd know how much they've shown or how far they've come along? Do you watch the Richmond games that frequently?

So if he's above them then why isn't he playing?

That a matter of opinion, pattison hasn't had a place to break into the side yet and we don't have room for meyer, the rest are inclusions anyway!!

That's my point. Nobody can say if they have or haven't come along.
It's still to early anyway...

Stupid thread.
I vote close it now........especially since some dingbat tiger has contributed his two cents...... which is exaclty what they should be paying Richo weekly....

My point was we can't say the 2 guys Richmond out of those picks suck or are a bust for the exact same reason hey couldn't say Prismall is...

I can't believe people still can't grasp this trade.

We did not give up Moloney AND two picks.

We traded Moloney FOR a pick which we on traded to Richmond with OUR pick for Ottens.

Moloney --------> Melbourne
Ottens ---------> Geelong
Melbourne's pick + Geelong's pick ---------> Richmond

And IMO, we have won in this deal.
