If Diablo has gone to bed can I take the pick? - if yes, we will take Joel Selwood for 2 simple reasons -

1. Geelong needs to build a solid group of on field leaders if it is going to move forward and Selwood is possibly the best of this draft

2. We need a strong clearance player - despite popular opinion the majority of our midfielders are outside players

Fair enough, for the allocated posters to take the pick, but I think everyone should be free to voice their thoughts or offer advice (however ill-conceived it might be). After all, isn't that the point of this board -- draft discussion?

And I still stand by that.
However, whilst taking Mackenzie at 6 is a bit of a shock, I had him ranked at #11, so it's not that much of a stretch to see him that high, although Sellar or Jetta would have been better selections IMO.

The selections of the Sheldons were the only questionable picks for Carlton given we'll draft Sam next year.

I'd be very happy if we ended up Gibbs, Collard, Brown and Reid in this draft but I would have preferred we draft another midfielder with our fourth pick. Our list would be very top heavy if we drafted two KPP and we desperately need another runner with leg speed late.

And a ruckman with pick 51.

If we want to add two talls it should be Hansen and Brown.

this fellow has all the usual hallmarks of an indigenous young player, pace, skill and mobility. what sets him apart for mine is that he has good footy smarts and knows how and when to use them, isnt afraid to go and find his own footy and knows where the goals are. has good size and a good engine for his type of player, and we will be looking to push him into the midfield sooner rather than later. will add something to areas the cats are very deficient in right now.

Part of me wishes I had changed the name to Mostly_In_Like_Flint because it appeals to my black sense of humour.

It appears Mojo may have been right when he said the quality and the number of talls available isn't as good as the mids in the second round. The comment that Pagan would target another gorilla and is looking for the second coming of Mick Martyn sent shivers up my spine.

Pagan's wants won't have any influence on Hughes's decision and I doubt the club will let him anywhere near the decision making process after they tried to sack him. If we want a tall we'll grab the best one and hopefully not another gorilla who is a tight checking defender.

Aside from the power KPP such as Kennedy and Hartlett, Hughes has mainly drafted skinny bottom aged talls like Edwards, Raso, Bower and Flint late who have plenty of upside and run. And I think Hughes was the Dockers scout in Victoria when they drafted similar types in Mundy and Murphy. Three mids and one of Ben Reid, Collier, Mark Austin, Allan, Morton and Everitt might be on the cards this year with our first three picks.

I'm getting toey.

Pick 8 - Collingwood - Albert PROUD

Delighted he has fallen this far. terrific midfielder from QLD who has had a very good year which culminated in AA selection at the Champs. I would class him as one of those special mids who can play in and out and has good pace and very neat skills. Clearly a few mids to choose from here but gone with Proud because I think he is a slightly better allrounder than the others and hence better overall.

Certainly a player who could well play in '07. Rapt to get him!

Slight shock I am sure and certainly very tough decision to let Sellar slip but ultimately what swung me was the clubs view that they are rebuilding the mids. Very happy to get both Hislop and Proud as I believe we now have two midfielders with a combo of grunt, passion, pace. With Egan, Thomas, Didak, Pendlebury, H.Shaw, Swan playing outside these the Pies have completed what they set out to do with trading Tarrant. tazz was not traded for another tall - he was traded to get us two of the best mids IMO,

Hislop is your classic inside mid. Terrific height of 184cm and already reasonably developed. Loves to tackle and thrives on the hard stuff. MM style of player 2. Think of Lenny Hayes.

Pies fans will be split on this one!

Via Pm Pick #11 - TOA selects James Sellar

Took best available and best tall approach rolled into one. James has been slightly disapointing this year but thats only if you judge him against his outstanding u16 form where he looked like he would be sure fire #1 heading off all comers. Still put in some very strong performances in the SANFL and is very bottom-age. Has done 20m times sub 3secs, this years draft camp and u18 champs was an abberation. Probably fair to say his mind and body havent been on the job 100% this year but he has enormous talent, no reason why he cant play anywhere on the ground. Takes contested marks, is quick, footy smart, will have monster frame, booming kick and super hard working kid.

Of course you never say never when it comes to making predictions come draft day, but to me it would be much much more surprising than Swallow going at #43 last year. Highly unlikely I would have thought, but all it takes is for a club in the top 6 to take someone unexpected and anyone could drop a bit.

tbh I'd say someone like Gumbleton would be more likely to be available at #8 than Sellar.

Probably not. IMO, Sellar will go to the Hawks at #6, and Mackenzie will go in the 10-15 range.
