Phantom Draft - Trial Run #1

The purpose of the draft was to give everyone a little info on the possible draftees and see where players are likely to be picked. Now it's well and truly into the "smokey" stage and in all likelyhood most of the players picked from now on won't be picked in the real draft. So there isn't alot of point in continuing, but there's no real reason not to either.

Probably these stick out the most to me. Pettard to early, Moss to early. Armitage to late. . Adams & Boak to late also.

i am not sure we are as into the smoky stage as you may think. Guys like Sam Jacobs and Leigh Adams only just went.

I think what this draft has shown is that the top 20 are standouts and then the next 30 are very solid with not a lot of difference. after that it really comes down to something you have seen that you like.

I see the Blues people suggesting ruck stocks need replenishing but unless you get the big Leuenburg early the stocks get thin very quickly. I suspect there is a number of project ruckmen which will get drafted late or be rookied.

I know there is no sentiment in football these days but in this insatnce my heart rather than my head won over.

Nothing extraordinary about Tim other than a compact hard nut in and under player who will always give you 100%. Lot’s of development ahead of him and a project in the making. One never knows maybe under big brother Johnathan he may blossom into a better version of Fixter.

For the genetics alone he's worth a punt.

Just had a look - its;

Shawn Colbung - probably the type North need anyway. They took Hansen and Allen so probably some pace to add with Houli.

Small fwd who has great pace and reads the play well. Query over whether he has a big enough motor and sometimes his kicking probably can let him down. One of those player though an AFL preseason or two could turn into anything (eg Aaron Davey)

Should we assume his pick? Leave it with you - will be back in a couple of hours.

Why not worth a punt? If he wasn't going to be selected in the draft i'd take him as a rookie, and hes worth a gamble this late in the draft. This guy has all the tools in the shed to be the complete KPP either foward or back.

He has same as, if not better hands that lachie hansen, his foot skills are solid, and he's very very athletic for his size.
Draft camp invitee 2005. Back at oakleigh for a 19th year. Will line up in the Tac Cup Grand Final next week. Keep an eye on him- very good player.

I'd be all for that, but there main concern I have is that there are a few bottom age players still available that we wouldn't ba able to pick due to the rules of the rookie draft. Happy to go with LH15 idea of another round, it's just a bit of fun after all, doesn't have to be too realistic at this stage.

I'm easy I'll just go with the flow.When we get to the real rookie draft I co-ordinated the draft last year and the way I did it was the recruiters sent me a PM of their top 10 choices in order and I just put them up as per the order of the draft.If your 10 players were taken then I sent a PM back asking for another 5 and that system worked very well.I'd be happy to do it a again if you want.
This wouldn't work for the National draft as recruiters are looking for specific players.
