Thats where i will be playing a different game to u. U gotta back ur opinion on the players that u have seen and predict wether they will make in the big time.

IMO this draft is about who U RATE & what ur clubs needs are.

Will be drafting absolutely, towards my teams needs and will structure my draft picks accordingly. But u gotta back ur judgement on the players u have seen during the year IMO.

Be interesting to hear some of the other recruiters opinions ??
Bultish. It's a PHANTOM DRAFT not a list of people's top 50 or 100 rated draftees. When you select your choices you still have to justify and give a reason and short synopsis of the players chosen.
I know you are itching to show off your knowledge, about the players you have seen, now show us your skills in matching your club's selection and needs in their recruitment of players?

I am told it's a big NO NO to insert or change peoples posts when you reply to them. I know on this occasion it was done with some humor and will accept it for what it was.:D

i want to make sure the picks are correct in terms of where they are taken. as far as who i pick goes, i dont think there is any way known that i could hope to know what geelong is going to do on the day. i mean ive looked at 20 or more phantom drafts from last year, and three of the five blokes we picked up didnt appear on ANY of them, and one appeared on maybe half.

to me, its as much about picking a player with your pick that you think your club can use, but also to get an idea of who will be picked up FULL STOP.

diablo I agree 100% with your sentiment that the picks should be accurate in terms of order.

Brisbane for eg; started their pre-season yesterday and it is said they have given Chris Scott a month or so to prove that he can be a valuable contributor next season. Otherwise retirement or delistment awaits him.

Also Brisbane like many other clubs will be in contract negotiations with many players well into early November. By 17th November we should have a definitive drafting position by all clubs.

I don't see what's the rush to get going. Some have suggested doing a third one after the 17th. What a load of bollocks.

i reckon there is three ways we can do this.

one, we start it on the 1st and go half assed.

two, we start it on the 1st, do the first three rounds to give everyone some time to get those picks in and leave the last couple till after the 17th coz they are the picks that will be mostly affected.

or three, just wait till the 17th which will cause a lot of knowledgable people here to pull out because they cant commit.

C'mon boys - time to sort it out.

At the end of the day Hodgey got it up and running and has done the work so ultimately he needs to make a call. you both have a point but we are going to have to go with one format.

just decide.

exactly would hate to do it half-arsed. What's the rush anyway, we've got plenty of time I would have thought. Don't understand why we can't start after the final list lodgement date

It will take you 2 weeks to get to the end of the third round anyway

I agree macca.
What's the rush. Lets do the best possible Phantom Draft instead of going through a half-arsed, half-hearted, inaccurate, add-hock, crappy effort.
Looks like finally we are reaching some consensus of starting after the final list lodgment date of 17th November.

I agree, let's wait until after the 17th.

Not having a go at your directly Gilly ;) , but Nov 17 is one week from the ND. Considering how long it took the first draft to go, it's possible this one wont' be even close to finishing before the ND actually starts.

My vote is for a Nov 1 start.

I don't see one week being an issue. Starting on the 17th should give alll of the participants ample time to develop their wish lists and be ready to make selections almost immediately. For the sake of expedience we could leave the write-ups and justifications to a single post by each recruiter at the end of the draft?

We could also develop a 'buddy' system whereby if you think there is the possibility you won't be online when your pick comes around that you PM your 5 preferences to your buddy.

Fair point mate, but IMHO, Nov 1 is a better time to start.
Seeing that LH15 started it up, he should have the final say.
I'll stick to Nov 1 myself.

Demons select Grant Weeks - Bendigo Pioneers 189cm, 90kg

Biggest ?? is he is that not really true KPP size at 189cm, so what position does he play? HFF seems the most likely position at AFL.

Mobile and versatile forward, very strong overhead and quick on the lead, field kicking is good, but set shots can be erratic, strong body already and should be AFL ready first year, but maybe not as much improvement left in him.....was a toss up between he and Tippett as i'm not sold on Melbourne's ruck stocks, but Weeks is the best available at #30 IMO......a few question marks and maybe doesn't perfectly fit the Demons needs as they have Robbo as another inbetween sized forward who is more athletic and explosive than Weeks, but the thing that got Weeks over the line is he has the engine and ability to push into the midfield.

He doesnt like it but he can play down back, very good at CHB as he's quick good body on body and reads the play very well.

7 days just doesnt seem to be enough time imo and if u take away the days that burgatron releases his draft, we could be limited to maybe 3-4 days.
Another reason i dont wanna do the Nov 17th is pm ur choices just isnt the same as picking when u have seen who has gone be4 u. ( Scratching ur head trying to decide between player A and player B is half the fun.)

Im still advocating a November 1 start. Give us heaps of time with no panic on time limits to make our selections.

Last year when this same type of draft was run, it was started after first list lodgement was done ( November 1st) and it worked perfectly.

Lets stick to a winning format. :thumbsu: And have some FUN with it................But not to much fun, my competetive nature wont allow it :D

Having a small profile when a player is selected means we can bundle them all together and form u huge draft write up similiar to the one missionpossible did last year. For this to happen we need time.

Bring it on.

I've been very interested in this phantom draft, I think it's good quality. :thumbsu:

This bit I've quoted from DanA...I wonder if it's not a bad compromise. Start a week or two early (because the early rounds are already set in stone*), then the bits that are subject to change can wait until the 17th. It'll be good both timewise and closely reflecting reality wise.

*My understanding is that with the trade week gone, the only picks not set in concrete depend on the players yet to be delisted. In that case the first few rounds (3 at least) are already set. I could be wrong about this and happy to be corrected.

this is what i was saying. i reckon we can easy do the first three rounds prior to the 17th, and leave the last one to two picks after the 17th. not only does it mean we know where we stand as far as the actual picks themselves go, but i also think it gives us a bit of a chance to think about those last two, which can often be the trickiest ones.

Cool. By the sounds of it, it could be a workable compromise.

Of course nothing will beat the thrill of actually drafting the country's top young talent in just one day, but that's getting a bit idealistic I think. :D
