Had fun doing a couple of Phantom drafts in 2008, why not try again in 2009. With the increased popularity of mock drafts, this is a chance to show Wayne Hughes, Phil Smart....how they should draft.

Having previous experience attempting these styled mock drafts, I ask for a couple of key factors.

  • Able to access the internet for extended periods of time.
  • Check this thread every day, until complete.
  • Attempt to justify your selections. Not a massive novel, but just a short sentence.
  • Select two teams that you would like to become the recruitment officer for.
The main reason for two teams each, is that getting 15 other people with dedication is normally impossible.

I would also request that a maximum of 6 hours between picks, not including the hours from 9pm-8am.

I will get the ball rolling and nominate myself for

Tarquin - Carlton + Geelong
IbbosBFF - Fremantle + Port Adelaide
Big Bad Buddy - Richmond + Essendon
FiveStrings - West Coast + Bulldogs
swans4eva - Sydney
Offsider - Brisbane + North Melbourne
Chris25 - Melbourne + Hawthorn
Robbo29 - Collingwood + Adelaide.
roo2macca - St Kilda

Would love to take the Swannies... great idea to start this! was in one last year and it was awesome!
I know it seems a little stingy but I have exams next week and really will not be able to do 2 teams but I will definitely be committed to the swans!

"Do as I say, not as I do?";)

I'll take the Bullies then.

I was asked by IbbosBBF if he could select for the Dockers, so I then decided to just pick for Carlton and whoever else was left over.

So yes it is a case of do as I say, not as I do. :)

(I knew someone would mention this)

No surprises from me yet....

Pick 1: Jack Trengove

Pick 2: Tom Scully

Everyone knows these guys, so I wont bother with some big write up. Quite simply they are the two best players in the draft, and by a fair margin too.

The only other player considered was Morabito, as he is the next best available. But there is too much risk in him for a top 2 pick, especially given my two other choices.

Pick 3: Richmond - Dustin Martin

I really like this kid, And he shows alot of upside and potential. He has good skills on both feet and moves well. Tigers would be extatic with picking up this kid.
Others Considered: Anthony Morabito

Pick 4 - Fremantle - Anthony Morabito
Big bodied outside/inside midfielder that dominated the championships. Good clearance player with decent hands, it is his kicking that causes much debate. His kicking has depth and penetration over 60M on both sides but when trying to spot up a target 25-35m away he tends to put to much air under the ball, causing a contested situation. That does need to be ironed if he wants to become a top 50 AFL player. 4-5 years into his career I see him developing a centre-half forward role much like Adam Goodes did this year with the Swans.

AFL Comparison: Adam Goodes
Also Considered: Ben Cunnington, John Butcher
