Phantom Draft

Melbourne delisted two more players today, which means they will now have picks 50 and 62. While St Kilda will have pick 61 after Ball walked out....

Considering we haven't reached those picks, we are still in a position change the draft order if you want....

Adelaide pick 29
matthew Panos192cm
Weight: 85kg
DOB: 25/01/91
Recruited from: Rostrevor College

I just think this because he is from S.A and could turn out to be agood player thought be a top 16 prospect until recently and going my opion of best available

Collingwood Pick 30
Luke Ball

the reason i,m picking ball is because collingwood look to be in a premiership era and Luke can play very good he just was'nt getting much game time at st kilda. wants to go to collingwood and still 25

Pick #31 - Western Bulldogs - Jack Fitzpatrick
Ruckman/forward, Western Jets, 201cm, 85kg.

Talented and mobile big man, probably the best tall available at this pick. The Dogs have a few young talls in the squad already in Grant, Boumann, Cordy, Roughead and Jones but they'll be looking to add another here I feel.

#32 St. Kilda: Jesse Crichton (Tassie Mariners) Height: 183cm Weight: 66kg D.O.B: 18/06/91
Has a slight frame which he needs to build but he is a solid inside mid who is very good around the stoppages and has the ability to run and spread through traffic. No real needs for the Saints so I think they will go for the best available which would be Crichton at this stage.

It may be an idea, Chris25, I am busy at the moment; if you can post an adjusted draft order that would be great... (I heard Cloke may have left Carlton as well)

So far the only confirmed news is Ball, Meeson and Newton. So by my reckoning....

50. Melbourne
51. Richmond
52. Fremantle
53. North Melbourne
54. Sydney Swans
55. Geelong
56. Hawthorn
57. Hawthorn
58. St Kilda
59. Adelaide
60. Collingwood
61. Western Bulldogs
62. St Kilda
63. Melbourne
64. Richmond
65. Hawthorn
66. Richmond
67. Brisbane Lions
68. Collingwood
69. Richmond
70. Brisbane Lions
71. Brisbane Lions

Pick 34 Melbourne: Max Gawn

I had planned on taking whoever was left out of Gawn and Craig, but both are still on the table. Ultimately though, Gawn has more potential as a ruckman, whereas Craig isn't actually guaranteed to become a ruckman at AFL level. I'm happy to take the risk on Gawn, as Melbourne already have a few capable ruckmen on their list. Just no monster ruck like Gawn.

Others considered: James Craig, Daniel Menzel

Pick 37 - North Melbourne - Daniel Menzel

I can't belive that Menzel is still here so I am picking him up now, should go much earlier considered him at 25. a quarterback/HBF who is very strong offensively yet can also shut an opponent out of the game. Similar to Luke Hodge as a defender in that he provides a lot of drive out of defence, and has excellent kicking skills, and reasonable athleticsm. Should provide North withsome more run out of defence.

Sydney Swans- Pick #38- Tom Hill

Tossing up between a few players here but have opted to go for needs with Tom Hill. Hill is definitely the best KP available at the moment in the draft. I have two men in mind for Pick 54 and are majorly hoping atleast one of them slips through. Hill at 199cm tall is a slightly mature age prospect as he was available for the draft last year but wasn't taken. He is a strong key forward who has good skills and marking ability. So far the swans have drafted a flashy forward flank, a workman-like midfielder and a solid key position forward who could end up playing down back in his future career.

Pick 39 Hawthorn: James Craig

So far the draft has gone exactly as I have expected. In fact of the 38 picks so far, the first 34 picks from my phantom draft have all been picked up.

Anyway, I didn't really consider anyone else at this pick. Hawthorn need a ruckman and a key defender. Craig was the All Australian ruck in the U18's, and his work around is ground is quite good. Come draft day, I can see Craig getting picked inside the top 25. Wouldn't surprise me to see him developed into a Daniel Merrett type full back either. So Hawthorn fill both needs with this one pick.

Pick 40 Geelong - Josh Donaldson

While he played in the Ruck for W.A, he will be trial as a tall forward in the Cats. Being the premiers, they have strength all over the ground, but the forward structure could do with some depth.

Josh and Brown from last year should add some added forward line height.

Pick 41 - North Melbourne - Ayden Kennedy

North pick on needs and they need a tall prospect, with doubts over their forward line. I actually think that Kennedy may turn out to be either a CHF or third tall if he improves his endurance, as he is more of a lead up type playe, who is not a strong contested marking. He has a lot of potential and great athletic capabilities mixed with a reasonable skills set make him a good prospect.

The rules were pretty clear about the time limit for picks. Who are we waiting on?

Yes, I know it's Tarquin and he made the rules. I'm attempting to be hilarious

Sorry mate, I did not get a PM telling me it was my pick.

I've been on a bucks day today, so a little late with the picks.

pick 45-Roland Ah Chee

Used to be ranked alot higher but has slid he is considered to be a small but he is 6foot very fast and doesn't mind a few goals
