Stick the papers straws up your arse.
The most inconvenient environmentally "friendly" consumer change.

how so? as long as you dont take three days to drink your drink its the same as normal

and get used to it. single use utensils, plates, bowls, and cups are likely to disappear from supermarket shelves soon too

How so, you ever had an iced coffee with a paper straw?

I had a Macca's soft drink the other day
Middle of the Straw got ripped where it meets the lid after 5 min

Supermarkets make me laugh, take away plastic bags that were free, now they sell bigger plastic bags for 15c.....so actually make money on them.

Then they wrap different fruit and veggies in plastic when not needed. You can still put fruit and veggies in a plastic bag etc.

Agreed.
You'd hope that Coles especially make a big change in this area now that they have joined ANZPAC https://www.colesgroup.com.au/media-releases/?page=coles-joins-anzpac-pact-to-tackle-plastics-waste

People should simply stop buying stuff that's prewrapped where there's an alternative.

I see it all the time with capsicum and zucchini at the green grocer.

Stop it, let me buy it loose.

They don't want you to buy it loose.
They want you to buy more than you need...$2 for 1 or $2.50 for 10 is the oldest supermarket scam in the book.

I don’t buy it anyway, I buy the alternative option that’s not prepackaged!

It’s one of those things that infuriates me every time I see it, such a pointless waste of packaging. Can very easily do away with that one.

Have you ever seen what they put on top of the fruit & veg at night when the store closes?
The floor mats people have been walking on all day.
Shop local, find a green grocer if you can. You'll pay a little bit more but it's worth it.

I do it but it probably just ends up in landfill. The only way to ensure it doesn't is to not buy it in the first place.
Exactly
And if you have to put your loose fruit and veges in plastic then keep using them every shop till they die .

on another note building materials are huge plastic consumers .
Would be awesome if we could find a way to recycle our waste into a compound that could be used as a building material for 3D printers.

That’s exactly what I do, shop at the local green grocer. But even they do the prepacked thing for some stuff.

Supermarkets deliver all their online shopping in single use plastic bags. Don’t even give you the option not to use them. And they make you pay for it.

supermarkets aren’t getting rid of anything. They just dropped free plastic bags cos it was good for their profit line.

They began it because it was just another poorly thought out populist government policy.

wrong

the single use bags are a preferable option. multi use have to be tested and verified as suitable for use on a reasonable number of multiple occasions (i know both coles and woolies have have all their bags undergo physical testing to verify this).

there is a reason aldi save money by proving nothing

I’m sorry but the bags Colea bring me are single use. I’m not using those bags for anything else.

They are tiny plastic bags that no one is taking anywhere with them. Plus given I get 10 of them each online order and I order once a week then at the end of the year I have 520 plastic bags. Even if they are multiple use what am I going to use 520 bags for?

i havent ordered with coles - but woolies deliver to me using the same white bags that they sell to punters for 15c

I am old enough to remember supermarkets using thick brown paper bags at checkouts. I remember the switch to plastic bags, it was not overly popular at the time, and there were already questions about littering and plastic going to landfill.

Take them to the shops
Put stuff back in them and do that again and again till they break

What shops? I shop online. When else do I go to the shops?

and even if I shopped every week cos I’m a mad shopper. Why would I need 520 multi use bags? And that’s per year. If they are multi use I only need a handful. What do i do with another 500? I currently have an entire cupboard full of nothing but coles bags and it grows by 10 every week.

i don’t want them but they keep giving them to me (and force me to pay for them).
