Review Pheww...Freo just sneak home against the Swans.

Wrong. Having genuine talls everywhere is the only advantage we had over the swans. Was obvious all game. We are to unskilled to play any other way than a bomb it long game plan and having all these talls everywhere facilitates that.

Yes and no. Agree it worked because it gave us more focus in the fwd 50 and made it harder for intercept marking etc. and we could just bomb semi-blindly and have at least some hope of controlling the ball (note, I didn't see too many marks inside 50 despite that tall setup). With no Tabs or Hogan, we are better shaped with another tall fwd of centre.

But around the ground and when we lost control fwd of 50, it was way too easy for Swans to control and create genuine fwd thrusts. The only reason it didn't cost us is because our defence was switched on and they were almost as crap as us at converting opportunities. If we were playing a half decent team, it would have been a comfortable loss I reckon.

The other thing I'll say against myself, is the ruck combo allowed us to control clearances a fair bit (at least if felt like it), this meant we at least had field position more often than not. So it worked in that regard.

Real issue, as you mentioned I think in another post, is our medium-fwd has such a weak defensive game/2nd efforts etc. If we're going to play those tall and relatively lumbering players, that '4th tall' needs to be able to play a more dynamic game. He's just not up to it.

Logue's efforts in the goalsquare in the last minute were what won us the match
I loved Logue I'm the 2nd quarter. Had a 2 on one in that back 50. Soccered the ball slowly gained ground then the ball was on the wing. The Freo crowd applauded that.

My 1st time at a Freo game at this new Perth stadium.

Great game regardless of result. I had nice seats. Beautiful view of Brad Hills goal in the 1st quarter and Rory lobbs goal from 50 out.

Pav stated that Sandilands has skills that are not generally noticed.
Wonder what they are?

I watched the replay, Sandi did a good number of taps to runners advantage. Just because the runners didn’t finish the delivery, don’t hold it against Sandi.

Each to their own but my expectations were that we’d be better than we were and I’d prefer not to adjust those expectations.
If you failed to adjust your expectations given who was missing from each of the two teams your were always destined to be disappointed... Some people seem to want things that don’t make sense apparently which is what I don’t get.

All Hughes had to do was pick the ball up and be tackled over the line or just fumble. Instead he tapped it straight out.
Umpire would probably said holding the ball. Honestly it’s up for interpretation. It was going to go over anyway. He was under pressure. Meh.

Logue will be great to build games into this season. But if he leans out, he can be a pack crashing midfielder/forward. He has too much to offer just as a lock down defender. Limited to that role. Absolute specimen

Dream team moment too. +3 +3 +4 +4 +4

Logue will take Hughes' position if we have everyone available

Which is a significant upgrade and gives us a lot of flexibility as Logue can play tall or medium. Once Pearce is back the combination of Alex and Joel should give him a heap of confidence to be attacking while letting us shut up shop defensively. One of the things I am looking forward to next year.

I deadset thought he was going to get done for kicking in danger, but he went on to run like Usain Bolt and lay 3 tackles like a man possessed! He’s gonna be a good’un. 💜👍🏼

Logue has only just begun on his journey, he has just moved up to second gear. Third gear is awaiting, and it looks good.

Some times, as supporters, we fail to look forward and see that players take time to develop. Patience in relation to Brayshaw, Cerra & Logue, will be well rewarded.
Agree but to get anywhere near a flag you need your top picks becoming elite or you need some super luck on late picks or be gifted bs father sons or smash a trade out the park like eags did with Kennedy. I think our best chance is one of the above 3 becoming a top 10 player and I'm not buying that from any of them. Mora was the last freakish talent weve drafted with a top 10 pick and we need another one. We need at least one of them to become a S hill level please jebus.

For such a low scoring game it was nowhere near as dour as the first 40-50 minutes of the Hawthorn vs Fremantle game last week.

There were a lot of efforts leading to promising passages, then ending with mistakes and the same back the other way, wavering between brilliance and disaster, which had a bit of a comical feel to it.

Comedy reached its peak in the 3rd quarter when our two big ruckman Lobb and Darcy tried to finesse the ground ball to each other in the forward pocket, ending up with the ball squirting out to Matera who pulled out one of those goals he occasionaly gets out of his ****.

Well fam, it was my birthday yesterday and was given 4 AJ Diamond tickets for myself, the bf and a couple of mates.

The seats were an absolute ******* belter. It was awesome watching the players warm up in the rooms and sing the song after the game. That win meant something to them. The beers were full strength.

Good:
-Logue’s infamous multiple efforts that finished on the wing happened right in front of us. What a bit of magic. Good to see the boys get around him after as well
-Brayshaw is coming into his own and I thought he did well in the midfield
-Lobb was a monster (and a complete babe up close) and I hope he’s ok for next week. We need him.
- Some of Sandi’s taps were sublime
- Ryan always goes hard. Never shirks a contest. That being said, he’ll be a sore boy this week.
-Absolutely awesome to see a 1 point win, on my birthday, in elite seats, after several full strength beers and a few chippies

Bad
-I thought Blakers was a bit underwhelming when he went into the midfield. Imo Brayshaw was better in there.
-Langdon still getting a heap of the ball and is an elite runner but daaamn that kicking
- Tucker was nowhere to be seen (except when he got done holding the ball)
- Cerra still unimpressive at this point. Genuinely think he will be back to Melbourne the minute his contract is up anyway and I get a very meh vibe
-Lobb potentially injured
-The game plan. Hardly used the corridor. Always a kick in to the back pocket, then the long bomb. I know we had the talls but only Lobb is an elite mark of the footy so I would have liked to see Wilson use his run more out of the backline

Ugly
-Darcy’s miss from 5cm out after finally taking a contested mark
- Dardy’s dropped chest mark
- Our skills are putrid
- We are a looooong way off being a halfway decent side. After the way the season started, that’s ******* disappointing

Overall, I had a fun night watching that shitshow! ⚓

Well that was worth the drive
I just love going to the footy, and I’m still honeymooning with Optus
stadium
It’ all been pretty well summed up on here but I will say
I went from being totally underwhelmed by the game about 5 minutes into the 3rd quarter to being completely intoxicated for for the next hour, what a finish
Bewley burns it a bit but I like the way he takes the game on, a few more games and I reckon he’ll start feeling comfortable out there and he’ll pay off.
I hate to harp on but Hughes on the other hand continues to burn the Ball, almost cost us the game when he ducked into a tackle on half back with about a minute to go, could have been pinged and goodnight Irene.
Surely someone in the army of people with computers in the coaches box counts how many times a person turns it over when they get the Ball?
I do and with Ethan I always run out of fingers, it’s a tough gig I know but...,
Mccarthy is one lazy bugger , which is so frustrating, if he put his head down he could be anything, all he had to do to pay his way last night was hold that mark in the dying minutes
Brayshaw is fast becoming one of my favourites, which is good timing as S hilly is almost cooked it seems 😢
Cerra is coming good, not sure if anyone among us is qualified to say he’s outa here as soon as is contract is up just reading what you think his body language looks like?? I don’t get it , I’m getting behind him regardless, isn’t that what you do as a supporter?

We won. But Ross hasnt changed.
And 3 slow ruckmen ? Lob the only 1 with skills.
Strange decision.

Lobb is a ruck/forward, not a ruckman nor a forward (semi good at both but not a gun at either one of them). We needed a tall forward, he was in the team as a tall forward - whereas he was in the team as a ruck earlier in the year. Those 3 goals that he kicked were handy don't ya think?

Selecting 2 rucks though, that is the question. I'm guessing that - as someone said earlier, tall was our advantage over Sydney.

I also think, injuries to talls being what they've been - including Lobb/Sandi and Darcy who have been injured at various points this year as well as those on the injury list... Insurance against losing a tall player in the game. If it was just Sandi and Lobb and one of those get's injured - we would have no tall forward in the game (Cam's tall, but he plays like a medium, he aint no tall forward as such) and we'd be stuffed.

- Our midfield is atrocious and up there with the worst in the league. We completely lack guys who can just win the ball we also don’t seem to be developing anything decent in the team or wafl.

Yes and no :)

Our midfield was and has been attrocious. Totally, so agreed there.

We probably would have seen more Blakely in the midfield throughout the year, but he was underdone from a long injury. Fyfe was out of the team for this game, kinda stings, so those are factors. With development, long term, Brayshaw and Cerra are midfielders, a long way from their peak but showing glimpses of what they will be. Bewley, needs time to adjust to AFL level, but at VFL "Was named in the VFL team of the year after leading the league in effective long kicks while rating elite for inside-50s".

Then there is wait and see as they are still babes in swaddling. Carter is a defender and a wingman, if he plays wing for us his disposal is an upgrade on Langdons. And then there is Luke Valente. "The South Australian under-18 captain comes with a reputation as a leader and very solid midfielder. The Dockers traded up to grab Valente at this pick, with early predictions putting him late in the first round. Specialises in winning contested ball and kicks well on both feet. Won SA’s MVP and was an All-Australian at the national championships."

So maybe, there is light at the end of the tunnel, but it's all about development of kids and a wait and see game.
