If you can bat 1 or 2, you can bat anywhere.

Gotta play the man.
Keep saying it.

It won't happen.

Jaques' best performances have been in limited-overs cricket.

We're still experimenting with opening combinations, but Jaques doesn't look like securing a spot anytime soon.

If he's not in the frame in to open in ODIs, which would be the logical choice, then I don't think he's going to be a surprise selection at #6 in Tests.

Watson is in the box seat. The selectors want an extra bowling option.

Jaques will just have to wait for Langer to retire.

You can stick with Clarke.
I expect Watson to play.

I don't know that it's the best option, but I think it's the most likely.

Saying "gotta play him" and "he needs to play" over and over doesn't make Jaques any more likely to be selected.

Did I ever say that if I continue saying it, that Jaques would play?

Watson will play.

if we play 6 bats, he is surely infront of Clarke... This might be radical, but bat him at 3. Langer started his test career batting at 5/6, then he moved to 3, and did not opened the batting until Slater got dropped in 2001 ashes series. Move ponting to 4, etc... I personally think he is more suitable at 4 than 3.

If we play an all-rounder, then he's probably got no chance unless hayden/Langer/ martyn fail really really badly.

Jaques shouldn't play in the ashes but should open in the Commenwealth bank series. (It's so much easier to write VB)

I don't think that Langer will get the whole series. If he fails early and Jaques continues to make runs, the curtain will be drawn on his career.

Clarke is useless. More concerned with his hair than his batting.

Jaques averages 58 at first class level ... how he is not in the Australian team ahead of Martyn and Clarke I can't fathom.

FFS, if you can open you can bat anywhere from 3-6. Look at Hussey.

Jaques is in good touch and has confidence against the English attack. Sometimes you just need to trust your instincts ... I reckon the selectors are compromising Australia's position if he doesn't play in the first Test.

Jaques has more than earnt his spot. Langer deserves to play every Test of the series. Ditch Clarke and bring in the "Pro".

I don't think Clarke is the guy keeping Jaques out.

The selectors are more likely to go with Watson.

Bagging Clarke is neither here nor there.
Clarke and Watson have nothing to do with Jaques. Its Langer and to a lesser extent, Martyn.

1 of Clarke and Watson will definitely play first test.

I agree.

People who like the idea of Jaques at #6 seem to think Clarke is keeping Jaques out of the saide.

Even if Jaques was in the mix for a spot in the lower order, Watson is the obstacle.

He should be opening for Australia alongside Gilchrist in both the CBA series and the 2007 World Cup. He is the answer to the opening position.

As for the test side, give that time as he deserved of a spot as well once hayden or langer start to faulter.

Last Ashes we had this with Hussey. Was slaughtering everyone at the time, even the Poms in the preceding one-dayers. We didn't play him. Do we make the same mistake with Jaques this time?

The last position will be between Watson and Clarke and former will get it. It's Martyn and Langer who are keeping Jaques out. Clarke has only played 2 tests in the past year and they were against the Bangers. He only got a gig because Symonds lost his spot. It's not as if he's a fixture in the test side.
