Contested ball is one element of many that you need to be goid at to be successful however Sando thought that this was the absolute silver bullet

I think you will find that Walsh will focus on contested ball plus total team defence, plus ball movement, plus running patterns and skill level etc etc
Yes, contested ball is largely individual whereas Walsh will put due emphasis on the team game.

Those wins weren't exactly evenly distributed over those three years though. 2012 is a bit of an anomaly. I think his winning % against top 8 sides in 2013/14 was pretty poor by comparison.

Coaches tend to be judged on a year by year basis and 2012 could only buy Sando so much good will. Even the club must have thought so initially because they extended his contract. Still happy Adelaide didn't allow themselves to be dominated by the situation and just stick it out a further two years. It would have been unbearable around here.

If you're going down this road "Sanders" compare accurately. Sanderson was coach for 3 years, compare his 3 years to the first 3 years of every other coach and he does not have the highest winning percentage in AFC history.

The winning percentage is a pretty meaningless stat considering it's over such a short period of time, with uneven fixtures and brand new teams coming in.

All it really boils down to is that we had one year where we very obviously overperformed, and two where we very obviously underperformed. The latter happened in the two most recent years and there was no real sign of turning things around.

I don't think Sando was a poor coach as such, but he clearly wasn't a great one.
