Disagree with the media part.

Fagan is fantastic with media dealings and has brought this to the club. Make absolutely no mistake this is 100% Fagan. From day one of his hiring - we have had the whole club singing the same tune. There is a very very clear and concise way that we are going to come across to the media and the public.

Fagan identified us as a club which was soft and tried to please everyone. We were more about marketing and 'spin' than results on the football field.

We are now an 'Authentic football club'. This means that we are mostly focused on getting results on the football - not being a nice club. We have a plan on how to do deal with the media / fans and thats already in play. Walsh will be under no pressure for how the media responds to him from the club. We have replaced the nice coach who has the players over for dinner (Sando) with a gruff guy who doesn't publicly thank our previous captain for a job well done. We have replaced our intelligent choir boy captain with a guy who had a mullet for 2 years and can barely construct a proper sentence.

This is one of the biggest turnarounds of a sporting clubs culture that I have seen in a 6 month period in professional sport.

And for all the discussion about Walsh and his 'Man Conversation'. This once again comes from the top and is a Faganism.
Fagan mentioned that the term man discussion is politically incorrect but I get the essence of your post.

Just listened to the SEN interview. Good stuff. Now that we've got the introductions out of the way and he doesn't have to repeat his life story and philosophy in every interview we're starting to see a bit more of what he's like. No nonsense but talks a lot of sense and cracks a decent joke now and then. I like it. I think the media will too.

I agree with you, and yes it does appear to be the line the club is taking. I just hope we stick to this and not falter under real pressure from the media and a worry about our image.

As The Sloane Ranger has said, if we win games this is not an issue and Walsh can do what he wants at pressers. But if we are losing that gruff exterior can wear thin when results are not being seen. Rooch will pick up on this quickly and drill him. His test will be holding it together and still wanting the job when times are tough.

I personally think he will be as good as Ken Hinkely with the media. Ken was also reluctant in the media when he started and was very "down the line" and does talk in cliches. But he has not been tested yet, no knives have come out. He has had a very good run. The real test will be if they start losing and in danger of missing the 8.

Walsh has his cliches and mannerisms, easy to control a presser now with them, will be harder when times are tough.
Walsh has a no bullshit approach with the media which I like as you hear it as it is... But likely to get him into trouble at times compared to those who are more politically correct with fluff answers.

Going to make for more enjoyable pressers & expect Rooch to be put back in his box a fee times if he continues the stupid questioning....

He might have come out and said that recently - especially since the Walsh press conference earlier this week has generated so much discussion.

But it is a Faganism. Back in October - Fagan said:

"I speak of having the ‘man conversation’ where nothing is off the table. That’s Phil too. We want to be challenged. So the discussion are positive and engaging — and hard and direct."

Make no mistake - the 'spin' is coming from the top.

there is no love lost between the 2, even when they were on the same team.

which is why rooch went straight to attack phil from day 1 about (paraphrasing) "coaching a team you despised, what changed?"

will be some great pressers this year, with and without michelangelo.

I don't think the level of change that has been brought in to AFC can be underestimated. I believe we are seeing a genuine attempt to effect cultural change and move us from a middle range successful off field organisation to an genuine premiership contending football club. We were this but I believe we have been progressively losing our way over the last 5-10 years.

I think Walsh has been brought in as a change agent first and not a premiership coach. Success is critical of course but recapturing our soul comes first. On field success drives everything I guess but from a distance ( in WA ) it looks to me that there were many issues to be resolved. Over here the feedback I always got on the crows was that they were a tough possible premiership contending side that was always competitive. We had respect from the opposition. I think this has dropped off in the last 5 years or so.

That to me is why walker is the right choice fro captain because he is a clubman and it's not about single players such as Dangerfield. I worry with paddy that he may be more of the more individual " brand " player that equally sees value in his marketing as an individual than as part of a team. We need him and he's to some extent critical to whether we are premiership contenders in the short term. But. equally there are to me bigger issues as stake such as the direction and soul of the club.

Can't wait for season 2015 !!!!!

He needs an opposing personality as a sidekick to do media, drip feed us the good stuff etc. I'm actually really glad he's not being pushed into more than he's comfortable with - I just need the guy to coach :footy:.

I we win games. I don't care if he doesn't utter a word for the whole year.

Rootchi will be salivating at the prospect of Walsh in 2015. The fact that Walsh has left PA, gone to AFC, and will be key to re-establishing AFC, is about the worst set of conditions for this biased agenda driven 'journalist' to accept. I forsee a direct focused attack on Walsh, which will be much easier than trying to otherwise bring down the whole of the AFC body. Will be interesting to see Fagan's outlook on Rootchi in this regard.

I also dont like alot of what Roochi writes but I think he has a fair bit of respect for Phil, and Phil also respects Roochi has a job to do.
I think Roochi will enjoy Phil's 'no spin' interviews

Yes, I saw a bit of offence taken on Facebook about him using that term, but then I remembered its the Internet, where people tend to make giant mountains out of little mole hills.

You are over-rating Shaw calling him a good tactition.

Cornes had a better clue about tactics than Shaw...Imo Walsh will too.

I get the toughening up comparison though.

A former player who I know very well would tell you Shaw was clueless as a tactician.

Don't tell Sanders - apparently he was a guru tactically. I only missed 1 home game over those 2 seasons & could see Shaw had nfi on match day... But the colonel is a great judge - of fried chicken. ;)

This former player said at times he wouldn't speak to the group because he was totally lost.

The thing is it is not just 1 former player - it's all of them! They say the same thing.

Shaw had so many theories in his head - he tried to use them all, such the players were confused what the game plan was for a particular quarter... But he was a strategic guru ;)
