However he can teach sauce more as a ruckman through his experiences
If he can't communicate those experiences, then no he can't. Stiffy_18 is spot on. The ability to do something as an outstanding player does not mean you can teach it to others. Cox might have the ability as a ruckman, but just because he was a very good player isn't an assumption that he can actually coach.

This is a huge bugbear of mine, the fascination that people have that how you were as a player is how you should be as a coach. What makes someone an outstanding player does not often make them a good coach. Completely different personality types there.

For me, this season has taken the complete opposite path from the end of 201.
Firstly in 2012 we overachieved, it was awesome, this year underwhelming, frustrating.
2012, we Lost an important cog to our club from walking out on us 2014, we lose one because we move them on.
2012 post season despair 2014, promise.

can only use what's available, only been coach for a day so not a lot of photos let alone good enough quality ones. same goes for fagan
It's better than anything I've seen the club come up with for years ... get into the marketing / design department there ASAP!

I like the photos of the 3 of them you have on it, they are all smiling but not camera cheesy grin smiles, they are the sort of smiles like u see badass gangstas in movies give just before they blow their enemies away :) :) :)

The "U talking to me?" type smiles ....

Is anyone watching Crows vs Collingwood on fox sports, it was their round 9 match. Its weird looking back in hindsight how Sando goes about it especially in his half time interview

He was out of his depth. Seasoned coaches used to toy with him. Roos and Malthouse got over him with Melbourne and Carlton FFS.

Hi, I'm not watching but now u mention those type of "interviews" ... U know what, I would like to see Phil Walsh NEVER give pre-game, 1/4 time, half time, 3/4 time interviews ... absolutely load of horse sh*t, say absolutely nothing, keep a boundary rider in an overpaid gig garbage. Next time I'll tell u what I really think :)

Seriously tho, show we are a club that means business, have our coach concentrate on the game for the entire game, absolutely no value in telling the tv boys sweet nothings during the breaks. I am sure Walsh will be completely honest during post game interviews and any interviews given during the week, that's all I want from the coach. Sometimes less is more.

The players still need to carry a lot of the blame. Just because Sando is gone we can't blame everything on him. I reckon the players had about 8 genuine chances to win that Carlton game in the last quarter, and blew it every time. I remember sms'ing my friend at 3 quarter time "We are clearly the better team". Remember that Danger inexplicable mark and play on? Can't blame Sando for that.

Sounds like what we do at work tho. Every time someone leaves, then when we find that something is missing or had been stuffed up ... "Oh, that was his job. He was hopeless". He hee. They must have loved it after I left my last job!

yeah it makes you think though, like if Sando apparently wasnt great at communication maybe danger was told at 3/4 time to play one at all costs or something and he was just following coaches orders

Our list should've thumped Melbourne and accounted for Carlton (who were in disarray at the time) without too much trouble. And don't worry I was blaming Sando at the time as well, its not a "since he's left" thing

Perhaps, but Sauce just doesn't have the same physical attributes that Dean Cox has. Very few ruckmen do. That said, he's supposedly been doing half a coaching role in the latter stages of his playing career anyway, so it's obviously something he's looking to do.

As someone with a passing interest in the skill of public speaking, I've found Walsh interesting to listen to. At a base level, he doesn't appear to be a great public speaker - generally says things in the same way every time, not much variation in his voice, lots of awkward pauses etc.

On the other hand, I don't think I've even once heard him seem to struggle to respond to any question. Every question has been immediately answered in an intelligent way - and if it's a question he shouldn't be answering, he immediately shuts it down.

I can't figure out if he's just a mediocre talker who has a lightning-fast brain, or if he's actually a very capable speaker who just doesn't see any value in putting on a performance for the media.

Frankly I'd be happy with either option :p

I agree. Couldn't care less if he's a mediocre talker. His ability to answer questions properly shows he knows what he is doing. Hopefully this particular knowledge will work with our club.

Only just watched his press conference and it really showed that it wasn't his drive to be a senior coach. A slight worry but as long as he performs I am happy.
Seems like that changed after being hit by a bus in Peru. From the sounds of things, he's a guy who likes to keep learning, and challenging himself. I'm guessing that incident made him decide to take the next step in his career, despite his disdain for the media duties that come with it.

I remember Winderlich did the same thing later in the year in one of those games where Essendon came back from a ridiculous margin down to win (v West Coast?). So it happens. I think his play on epic fail was even worse ... but end result on the day better.

With hopes after today he has worked out what to do with the coaching panel.

Hope he runs the broom through. Will be interesting i guess and may show what leadership he has

We should probably temper our expectations when it comes to assistants. Other teams aren't going to release their contracted coaches to go to another club to be an assistant, so it's going to be hard to replace them all at once, unless we're doing it with recently retired players, or people not currently working at AFL clubs.

What I meant was that a lot of what he said he had scripted (either by himself or with help, doesn't really matter) due to his nerves. I think a lot of the eyebrow raising things he said were entirely due to those nerves. Not having had to say things publicly previously just caused him to muddle a few things.
If we wanted a public speaker
Very true.

Most people see Neil Craig's tenure as a failure, and yet in terms of minor rounds we were more successful than Port has been in the last few Yeats

Not just in an intelligent way but also is a common sense and practical way :)
